considering most of the best looking games of this gen run at resolution below 720 should tell you that HD is overated.

because nintendo wanted more money :'(

HD was forced way too soon, but thankfully the Microsoft, Sony and the developers struggling with it and losing money on it will help prepair the industry for when Nintendo finally debuts with an HD console, all the R&D and profit-loss learning done this generation will benefit Nintendo who has been busy making copious amounts of money by playing it safe and playing it smart.

I have to call BS on the arguments about third parties developers profits not being great due to HD consoles ....

Activision 2007 : record profit
Ubisoft 2007 : record profit
Konami last quarter : +56% profit
Capcom last quarter : +43.5% operating income

Saying the industry is having losses due to HD consoles is cherry picking.
Overall the industry is expanding fast and so are the profits..

There are tonns of counter-example in history of why bigger budgets don't necessary mean smaller profits.

It means more risks yes, but big publishers are able to hand those...

It's ok to argue all day long about how you like small budget games but put your money where your mouth is.

At the end of the day people still go see 'The Dark knight', 'Titanic', LOTR trilogy, Spiderman, not the last 10 million $ budget independant movie............

And games have a lot more in common with the movie industry except that in terms of evolution they are still lagging behind by something like 10 years...

also i'm totally against small developers wouldn't survive look at team ico, LBP developers...

talent will always get their chance.

actually the only ones that would suffer would be shovelware makers.

In terms of evolution the gaming industry is following the same path as the movie industry and last I checked that path didn't kill Holywood and movies are doing as well as ever......

Game development costs are increasing exponentially, userbase and the cost of games aren't...

You can see where that leads ;)

all this talk makes me wonder what's in store for the next gen.
