Forums - General - Do you believe in god?

I would like to run a simple experiment in logic using an old logical tool known as Occam's Razor.  As I'm sure most know, Occam's Razor states that the simplest solution is usually the most correct one.  Let's compare the theories.

Theory #1: a god or gods exist and created reality.

Required assumptions:
* A god or gods exist
* A god or gods existed before all time and space
* A god or gods created all of time and space

Shortcomings:
* Lack of concrete evidence for the existence of a god or gods
* Revisionist additions are made whenever new evidence is presented which potentially contradicts what is already believed

Theory #2: reality exists due to the manifestation of scientific laws

Required assumptions:
* The basic theories guiding science are correct
* Time and space have an origin point

Shortcomings:
* Not all rules are necessarily understood correctly at this point and time, meaning certain aspects are unknown (such as the origins of space and time)

This is, of course, by no means a perfect example.  But it does point out a rather important fact: the idea that the universe came into existence by and is guided by a basic set of unchanging rules is a lot simpler than the idea that the universe was created by an omnipotent being or a group of omnipotent beings.  It also makes no claims that humanity understands everything; quite otherwise, it suggests that we have much to learn still about the basic rules that make everything work.

Of course not. If there was a G-d I'd be raping everything and then repent on my deathbed and shoot straight into heaven.

But it has to be true repentence. However i have notice that most homosexuals do not believe in a God because most religion believes it is wrong, and most gays do not want to accept that

Sounds like fun, Rubang! I'll bring the vodka. You bring the penguins!

Nothing like penguin sex to start the day......

Wouldn't it be necessary for it (them) to exist in order to create it?  In that case, it wouldn' t be an assumption, simply and extension

Shortcomings:
* Lack of concrete evidence for the existence of a god or gods
* Revisionist additions are made whenever new evidence is presented which potentially contradicts what is already believed

That's exactly what happens in science, though.

I would also posit that Occam's Razor assumes that all statements made have an equal probablility of being right and wrong.  If I suggest  "A, B, C, and D caused E", I really can't say that "A caused E" is all that more probable.  Yes, a statement is either going to be true or false, but we don't know if it has the same probablity of either choice, like the flipping of a coin.

Empiricism is useless by itself, anyway (Matrix, anyone?)

Well you have two kind of God believers;

You have the ones who believe everything what is written in the Bible.

And you have the ones who act they believe it but just don't, all they want is to spread Gods word because they think
that let people believing people in God will make the world a better place.  And they are right. The bible is more than just GOD. Every story in it teach us something, you don't have to believe the story but you need to find out what they want to say with the story for example 'Let the first one who didn't commit a sin throw the first ston'e. (I didn't translated that well I guess).

And it has proven that it helps.  Especially in African countries.  There were a lot of tribes who fought each other but they stopped with it because of the priests and God. They got hope, if they would be good they would go to heaven.  Then they would stop fighting the other tribe. The time that they normally would have spent to protect the tribe will they spent to have a farm, spend time with their chldren and so on;...And after a while...They will feel better, they will have more food, they will see that their children are more happy and when it is bedtime they will sit on their knees and thank God because they believe it is God who gives the happiness.

Now I maybe can conclude how believing in God is something Good sadly the world has 100 kind of different God all with their own rules and teachings and the clash between the believers of the Gods can make the world a more worse place to live in.

If this doesn't make sense I blame it on the fact that it is very late over here and that I need to catch some sleep.

There are many churches that accept homosexuality.  There are entire religions that accept homosexuality, although the anti-queer branches might scream louder on the internet and TV to hide this fact.  In fact there are even all-queer churches in many queer communities, with gay priests.  But why are we discussing this now?  Do you think I'm gay because I'm naked?  If so, explain that to my wife when I'm having naked sex with her.  Do you take showers with your underwear on to stay straight?  Do you squeeze your toothpaste out from the middle of the tube or the end of the tube?

No i do not think your gay, Just the fact you are naked reminded me about queers. I know enough from forums in the past that you are not gay. Your just a little crazy, but hell, ain't everyone?
