Forums - Sales - Prediction: The Xbox360 will outsell the PS3 this month as well.

August game released are very slanted towards the U.S in terms of quality game releases.

The main games are:

Multiplatform:

  • Madden NFL (12/08) EA
  • Tiger Woods PGA Tour (26/08) EA
  • Mercenaries 2 (31/08) EA

Exlusive Xbox360

  • Tales of Vesperia *No EU release this month* (19/08)
  • Too Human *Comes very late in EU for release* (19/08)

Exclusive PS3

  • Disgea*No EU release this month* (26/08)

In the U.S the Xbox360 should come into this month with good momentum from the last, and all of these releases for the most part favour the U.S where the Xbox360 is currently strongest, so it should gain from the fact that its strongest territory is getting the most love from game developers this month. Also the multiplatform game releases are in genres where the Xbox360 has traditionally been strong - shooters and sports games.

The EU has been pretty stable as of late, so theres no reason to expect that its going to change any of the equation all that much, especially with a pretty tame release calendar.

In Japan the Xbox360 is actually selling more units than ever before, its not much but when the margins are this tight worldwide between the systems - a few thousand a week here or there can swing a tight race. The PS3s Japan advantage has been diminished somewhat so they can't rely on them to pull them through as much currently.

The Prediction

The PS3 I predict will average somewhere around 130 to 150k per week in worldwide sales.

The Xbox360 I prediction will average somewhere around 150k per week in worldwide sales.

I believe the Xbox360 will win this month again on a razor thin margin of between 20-40k Total.

 Edit * Based on the assumption that the PS3 supply/sales return to normal  week 1 and there isn't also a dip in demand coinciding with the drop in Supply.*

interesting, i would disagree with you on that one, but hey

This is a fair and reasonable prediction to make Squilliam. X360 price drop in America has lead to a 50% increase in X360 weekly console sales. August is however a slow month regarding game sales. There are virtually no games coming out this month besides Madden a few sports games and oh yeah Too Hum for X360.

The months of September, October and November will see the launch of the best quality games on all platforms of the year. MGS 4 has been the best game of the year so far but the upcoming new games could eclipse MGS 4.

I also believe in this.

Since Sony is not completely RE-stocking the PS3 in NA and since 80gb is released on late August in europe and september, it will be hard for the PS3 to have any momentum.

It still consider, it will come back for October/November/December.

@I Own a PS3 Thanks.

@Libellule

October will be an interesting month, some of the big hitting exclusives are chalked in to start appearing, with the first real big ones being Fable 2 and Little Big Planet (October release right)

Then we move onto November and we've got the grudge match between Gears of War 2 and Resistance Fall of Man 2 competing head to head just 3 days apart! That one will be quite the Epic battle which will cause a lot of Insomnia for people around the time of release. The biggest fans will not get any sleep, thats for sure!

"Sure, the snazzy gray stand the Wii comes packed with is cool, but nothing says “Fuck you, Microsoft!” more than perching the tiny Wii on top of the mountain of fried circuitry that is the Xbox360. It’s like screwing your hot new girlfriend in front of your comatose wife."

LMFAO!!!

Yeah it's almost a given. September will be exciting though.

I think the odds are that the 360 will outsell the ps3 this month because of the possibility that the ps3 supply issues will persist and that the 360 will still have increased sales in NA due to the temp price cut. On top of that tales will either lead to the 360 exceeding or at least selling at similar levels to the ps3 for at least 1 week.

Too human is a wild card, we don't know how successful it'll be, but I hardly seeing it disadvantaging the 360.

PS3 should beat the 360 for the rest of the year though.

It's all about the MGS4 bundle pack and if they can get enough in stores because they still sell like Wii's

Except for September? The Xbox360 is getting another price cut then as well, a much bigger one too.
