August game released are very slanted towards the U.S in terms of quality game releases.
The main games are:
Multiplatform:
- Madden NFL (12/08) EA
- Tiger Woods PGA Tour (26/08) EA
-
Mercenaries 2 (31/08) EA
Exlusive Xbox360
- Tales of Vesperia *No EU release this month* (19/08)
-
Too Human *Comes very late in EU for release* (19/08)
Exclusive PS3
- Disgea*No EU release this month* (26/08)
In the U.S the Xbox360 should come into this month with good momentum from the last, and all of these releases for the most part favour the U.S where the Xbox360 is currently strongest, so it should gain from the fact that its strongest territory is getting the most love from game developers this month. Also the multiplatform game releases are in genres where the Xbox360 has traditionally been strong - shooters and sports games.
The EU has been pretty stable as of late, so theres no reason to expect that its going to change any of the equation all that much, especially with a pretty tame release calendar.
In Japan the Xbox360 is actually selling more units than ever before, its not much but when the margins are this tight worldwide between the systems - a few thousand a week here or there can swing a tight race. The PS3s Japan advantage has been diminished somewhat so they can't rely on them to pull them through as much currently.
The Prediction
The PS3 I predict will average somewhere around 130 to 150k per week in worldwide sales.
The Xbox360 I prediction will average somewhere around 150k per week in worldwide sales.
I believe the Xbox360 will win this month again on a razor thin margin of between 20-40k Total.
Edit * Based on the assumption that the PS3 supply/sales return to normal week 1 and there isn't also a dip in demand coinciding with the drop in Supply.*
Tease.
