Forums - Microsoft - When will Microsoft ditch gamertag?

The friend code system is horrible. The only advantage is the one that you mentioned - your Mii will display your name instead of a gamertag. In every other respect they are inferior. I suppose you could say that Nintendo's system is more secure, but I'm not a little kid that needs to be protected.

There must be a reason behind the implementation of Friend Codes. I believe it is to crack down on the online pedophiles who lurk online trying lure kids offering XBox Live Points in exchange for nude photos.
No longer able to hide behind an anonymous Gamer Tag.

This is serious business. Seriously. Saying yes to gamertags is like saying yes to pedophiles and income inequality...

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

The gamertag is far superior to the friendcode. Every eMail adress works with "Names" not numbers. hotmail or whatever has no problem with limited names, so Xbox Live won't have the either.

The whole Windows Live ID is a great thing. MSN, Windows, Xbox Live with one ID is great, a friendcode would be a step in the wrong direction

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

@Jo21: And hitting "invite" is exactly what you do in MKWii. See, your complaint wasn't about friedcodes.

@horriblebastard: So, could you explain why gamertag is better than using friendcodes? I's no different than difference between phone number and e-mail.

@I_own: No, the most propable reason for friendcodes is their familiarity and ease of use. It's the "learning curve" again.

@DirtyP: Why would friendcode be a step in wrong direction? And how is Live ID superior? Care to explain?

Theres no way friendcodes are better.

First of all its much easier to remember a name, its more personable and less robotic imo.

Secondly, in game works much better. For example, now with Geo Wars 2, they keep track of the next best score on the top right hand corner and also track your Friends gamertag leaderboard. I would rather see that bdbdbd got 1m more than me and I need to beat him, than see 123456781234 got 1m more than me and I need to beat him.

And if im not mistaken, you need a separate code for each game. So say I play Galaga Legions. Using gamertags, bdbdbd is exactly the same person as in every game, but a code will be different. so it wont be 123456781234 but maybe 876543218765 say.

Not to mention when I log on to xbox.com, the same gamertag has the list of Achievements and profile all under one gamertag with every game. Having various friendcodes for different games will be immensely confusing.

If MS goes with friend codes I'll sell my 360 and buy a PS3!!!!!!!!!!
