If you bring great games to the console, they will come.
It was reported as being at the beginning of July.
Although that doesn't specify whether that's when production began to increase, or that a magical "produce 600k more consoles a month" button was pressed, instantly raising production to 2.4m/month.
I expect to see 1m/week sales once some of that extra production inventory is released around Black Friday.
When I crunched the numbers back in early July, I had sales pegged at about 43.5m sell through by 2008 year end, based upon current sales as reported by VGC as of the end of June and a production rate of 2.4m/month for the rest of the year (about 14.4m from July 2008 through end of Dec 2008).
Well Wii obviously didn't get as big of a shipment this week. Was bound to happen sooner or later. I mean had multiple weeks of about 150k there haha. But almost 100k is still pretty strong.
360 seeing good last effects after the semi quasi pricedrop. PS3 getting a few more supply and DS owning as usual. PSP hanging on.
| mrstickball said: I am going to throw my opinion into this...Fanboy tears, watch out! 1) I don't buy supply issues for the Wii or PS3. For the Wii, it just seems odd that it drops off so suddenly. Nintendo has had very solid sales in the US. Maybe the X360 price drop is finally starting to cut into the Wii's sales at $249.99? At any rate, this decrease in sales won't hurt Nintendo...They're mopping up everywhere else. 2) I don't buy into the PS3 supply issues. Want proof? Look at the supposed Xbox 360 supply issues in Febuary...When supply was sorted out, how much did sales boost? At best, we will most likely see the PS3 at 60,000/wk in the US if it's lucky. Ultimately, I am very suprised that the X360 managed to sell so well this week in the US. I would of figured that supply for the 20GB's had been drying up (after selling 200,000-odd units in NA), but it's staying strong. Personally, I think that the price drop is cutting in to both the PS3 and Wii sales - moreso the PS3 than the Wii...At $400 or more, I don't think consumers are really going to buy the PS3 forever - even if it comes with the 80GB HDD. We saw the Xbox 360, and PS3 last year, pre-price drop reach market saturation, and no one wanted to buy the consoles because they were just too overpriced. Both made moves and benefitted. I think with the Wii at $249.99 and the Xbox 360 moving to $299.99 for the most-promoted model, a $399.99+ console just isn't going to move a lot of units, especially without any must-have exclusives outside of 1-2. It's not PS3-Doom, or WiiFad time. The market will do what it will do. This is just marketplace change as prices change, and consumers shift to what they feel is the most affordable console on the market, regardless of which one it may be. |
SO................. you think Xbox360 and Wii are competing for costumers?
Just for the record...............

If Wii is a fad, adults will still be infatuated for another 2-3 years. I don't think Nintendo will automatically win next gen because adults may get bored of their "new thing" gaming and will move back to other things. Its possible that gaming is vastly expanded forever, but I think only about 10-25% of new gamers will stick with gaming. That said, Wii is DEFINATLY going strong right now and will demolish everything this holiday season, regardless of price. A $250 XBOX 360 Elite would probably lose/tie with Wii this holiday season. Alot of adults want Wii or nothing. This week is probably due to shipment shortages- look at EU, Wii is better than ever this week there.
I don't get why people are saying they don't "buy" PS3 shortages when the first person to say there were PS3 shortages was ioi, there haven't been any statements from Sony, and the rest of us are just going by what ioi has said and his numbers.
PS3 sales would not drop from a steady 50-60k a week to 30-40k a week for no reason (and certainly not because of a 360 clearance price), there either is limited supply, or these numbers are off.
The same thing goes with the Wii, its supply fluctuates like crazy, it always has, and it always will, there is nothing to be surprised about.
Overall this is definitely a "wait for NPD" month, everything is out of the norm this month and it will be very interesting to see what NPD says about the supposed PS3/Wii shortages and the 360 boost.
@Mrstickball You're clinically insane, and unfortunately no matter what Microsoft does they're probably still going to end up 3rd.
As in go buy us some coffee.

Do people seriously think the Wii isn't supply constrained? You have to be a moron to think the Wii sales are normalizing. Here in Seattle you can't find one.
Also about PS3s. I have two friends who are managers at Gamestops. They have sold out of all PS3s, and as soon as they get 80gig MGS4 bundles in, they sell out of them. They have told me, that they are NOT recieving any more 40gb models. That should say something.
NO MORE 40gb SKUs are being made and or shipped to stores. No shit its supply strained. Sony is starving the market.
One last thing, if your a potential PS3 buyer, and you know the 80gig is just around the corner, why would you buy a 40gb PS3?
Watch PS3 sales sky rocket in September. My friends who work at Gamestop have told me people come in everyday asking about the release of the new SKU.
That is all. The fanboyism brought on by the likes of the regulars is damn upsetting.
Oh and amazing week Xbox 360. Fucking awesome. you deserve it.

Is it possible that Nintendo is doing a hardware refresh on the Wii? The box hasn't really changed a lot from the launch version... well, as far as I know. Doing a production changeover before the holiday season would make a lot of sense, and it might explain a drop in available units. I'm still not seeing Wii's in stock around here, so I have to wonder if it's a supply-side problem.

| Falkano said: PS3 really is dropping fast isn't it. I think those talking of suply problems really are milking it. The console sold what 350k in US in june? Which is about 80k a week. That was with a new game out. If you actually look at the pattern with GTA4 and the PS3 you notice it is the same. it goes from 95k on may 3rd (3 weeks after GTA4) to 50k on may 10th, then 40k on may 24th then 40k on 31st may. So there is a pattern of the PS3 sales declining prior to MGS4 to average of 40k while in those weeks mentioned the 360 was averaging around 55k. I think that the PS3 has just returned to it's pre MGS4 sales as statisticly it looks that way. There is nothing to suggest it should be selling 100% more. And as Sony nor any company have talked about there being one i think it is just Sony fans running damage control. |
That is full of fail. NO MORE 40gbs are shipped to stores. We're sold out in our area.
