MGS4 still is a financial dissaster.

LOL you are funny.

Actually I proved it in the same thread you quoted that from. The game isn't even half way to paying off its development cost. In fact I was being quite generous in assuming all of the 57.3% of Konami's earnings from the PS3 could be attributed directly to MGS4.

Umm what are you takling about Konami said they needed only 1 millions copies sold to make up the fiancial lost and thus they did

Konami said the game cost $70m to develop

Konami has thus far only made $30m off of the game in the first quarter.

Considering MGS4's 57.3% of that quarterly profit is a little under $30m, I think its safe to assume the game is a good ways off from making back its $70m+ cost of development.

MGS4 still is a financial dissaster. At this rate it will have to sell roughly 6m copies to just break even with development costs.

It's only a profit for the short term of this quarter and for this quarter's expenses, not for MGS4's development cost as a whole. Even then Konami is still making less than half of their revenue back.

They didn't say that at all: -

Reuters reports that Ryan Payton, assistant producer for MGS4, said the game needs to sell over one million copies on the first day to help recoup the cost of production.

Truth is truth. Unless we know how much MGS4 sold in the first Quarter, it will be difficult to put this situation in the proper context. MGS4 may still only need to sell 3.5m copies to break even financially now that I think about it, so the 6m may be a bit hasty of a figure on my part.

Well, Konami's stock was up 1.23 for the day, so obviously the stock owners don't seem that worried about it.  Seriously, just go back under your bridge and quit being a troll.

I'm merely assessing the facts and statistics of MGS4, not Konami's health as a whole. MGS4 still has not made its money back no matter how you slice it, this quarter's profits are inspite of MGS4's cost development, not proof that MGS4 has made its money back.

When a game takes four years to develop and then the bulk of it's profits are only yeilded in a few quarters, its easy to misinterpret the longer term success of such an endeavor by just looking at the short term yeilds.

those 30 millions are PROFIT!.

mgs4 payed itself with the revenue.

the only way to proof of that  if you knew how much they made per game.

they only need to make 40$ per game. to get a 30 million profit.

considering they are over 2.5 million by now

only if the whole of the cost of development for MGS4 were taken into consideration for this single quarter, and even then the revenue isn't enough to account for $70m. Though you do bring up a valid aspect of revenue vs profit I was blind to.

So I suppose it is quite possible MGS4 has made its money back by now if we can assume the entirety of revenue that never became profit is all MGS4's and nothing else.

Either way, looking at it in this new light MGS4 may not be as bad off as I had originally thought, but still more information needs to be known if such is the case or not.

There is no way Konami is making anymore than $20 off each unit sold unless Sony cut them in on part of their share too.
