Sony sure liked Nintendo's analog stick enough to copy it back in the Day...

But of course they lead...

Yes.

They liked it so much, they put two of them on the Controller, not one.

So innovation is merely doubling the competitor's creations?  Nice to know.  MS should go crazy and put 2 Cells in the next Xbox.  They'd be so much more innovative than the PS4 then.

Maybe that wasn't clearly marked as a joke, but it was.

:P

The wii is surly making some people upset. GO on Nintendo

Proud owner of all three consoles and handhelds.

Honestly, I do not see that as "wii is a fad", more as "copying something others have done to get some profit from it as well = a fad (for the PS3) that won't last long".

He is refering to non-traditional input methods. Which console has non-traditional input methods?  The question was about nintendo

Q: You mentioned the Blu-ray remote, and one of Nintendo’s key successes has been the accessibility of controls - something that’s not daunting to non-native gamers. What are your thoughts on that area?

SS: …I think the notion of that controller is a non-trivial point that you’ve brought up, that control and that familiarity is like comfort food - from my perspective, we lead, we don’t follow. And as a brand, Nintendo’s got their thing, and we’re not trying to get the senior citizen group to get into gaming, we’re looking to convert the PS2 owners and the tens of millions of installed base that were playing DVDs and playing games on their PS2, to now play Blu-ray movies and Blu-ray games with their PS3.

…So we’re all about looking at ways to keep that bar high, and from a peripheral standpoint the Blu-ray remote helps people get in and out of their digital media, but we’d never consider iterating off of existing competitive technology - because we think that’s a fad and that’s not the way we approach product development. It’s not the way we approach the marketing or the branding of PlayStation.

Because Sony so totally Rad, while Nintendo is a Fad for teh babiez and old farts.

Okay, I added in that last part but you get the point.  It reminds me of the Genesis commercials.  Blast processing and CD games were way better than the Super Nintendo according to Sega but that didn't help them in the end.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

He didn't call the Wii a fad, per se, he was talking about the controller. At least that's what the paragraph before it was talking about. Since there was no mention of Wii in the paragraph when he said fad, I'll take it that the second paragraph was siimply a continuation of the first.

The Wii is a major selling point for the Wii though. If the Wii Remote was a fad then the Wii itself would likely collapse. It doesn't matter what he said because the meaning is still there.

No, not really.

He can call the Wii-mote a fad but not the Wii.

The Wii itself is about bringing everyone into the gaming world, the Wii-mote is simply a vehicle to do so.  The Wii Balance board could (and is) doing the same exact thing, as could numerous other peripherals.

I'm not saying his statement has any stock, but the Wii-mote is not the sole reason for the Wii's success.

Sony - We lead, not follow, we don’t want senior citizen gamers, and the Wii is a fad

A portion of a GamesIndustry interview with SCEA’s Scott Steinberg…

Q
: How do you feel PlayStation 3 is performing with regards to the new audiences that have come into gaming in the past couple of years? PS2 has done a pretty good job, but if people are to transition to PS3, what is there for the family and social audiences?

SS
: When it comes to social or family games, there’s no question we’ve got the Rock Bands and Guitar Heroes, and we’ve got third parties supporting us in those ways. We’re going to make a bigger push on Buzz! We’ve got some great ideas that we haven’t announced yet that we think will broaden the casual and social gaming market.

Q: You mentioned the Blu-ray remote, and one of Nintendo’s key successes has been the accessibility of controls - something that’s not daunting to non-native gamers. What are your thoughts on that area?

Gotta love Sony PR :P

I think the bolded part should be the title. The guy wasn't saying the what the title states.

It's sensationalization.

I blame the media outlet that reported this.  And Soriku, for copy/pasting the title when he really doesn't call the Wii a fad.

sensationalization...

You don't normally object. ;) Nothing wrong with that, everyone is at it these days.

Sorry for the typo in my post low = lot

I'm basically saying that they talk about the brand quite a bit. They are exploiting the brand in a way that is making the brand become less valued to the average consumer.

i.e sitting on their bums not innovating, not taking risks, not really doing much...just eating cakes with the curtains shut talking shite.

hahahaha i love sony.

they are so hardcore that they can not bare the thought of old grannies playing the ps3

I blame the internet.  We need a sarcasm tag.

There should be an entire board dedicated to whatever Sony says so people can spin a million different ways becuz ppl sure seem to love doing that. The title is misleading.

i can't help but feel angry every time someone from sony opens their mouth.
