My issue is that it's silly to get insulted over a company not targeting you. Commonly senior citizens don't play video games, so Sony doesn't target them. Yipdee shit. I'm a white guy from Wisconsin, if I'm not targeted by some company because statistically speaking I'm not one to commonly use their product because of who I am what do I care?

edit: and he's not even just insulted, he's decided that this is a life changing moment where he'll never buy their products again and is going to try and rile up more people using a magazine.  Don't you think that's overreacting a tad, even if we assume you're right and there is something to be insulted about there?

double edit: I'll take the idea a bit further.  In my opinion it's people's inability to deal with the mildest comment that has turned this society into a bunch of PC bullshit.  He said the truth, his company isn't trying to get Senior Citizens into gaming.  It might have been a needless and stupid comment, but it certainly did not say anything bad about senior citizens, so what is there to be insulted by?

You have to understand older people.  My father-in-law (71) is still mad at Sears for something that happened 45 years ago.  Not all senior citizens will take issue with that, but I can understand why Grampy is.  I'd be pretty annoyed if they said "We don't want 32-year old fathers with disposable income..."

i think sony is quite arrogant for still claiming anything to do with the wii is a fad. but market leaders tend to come out with that sort of confidence, and that's what sony is; market leaders. they know what it's like to be on top. sure they're in third right now, but nintendo were in the exact same position last generation. just because sony are last now, doesn't mean that they'll be last forever.

sony obviously thinks that the wii is not the direction they want to head to, it at least shows that they WANT to head in a different direction.

Woah!!!!!!!!!!!  "You have to understand older people???"  Are you saying all "older people" stay angry for a long time?  I know you are not, but I hope you know where I'm coming from.  :)  Besides, SONY never said that they didn't want "senior citizens" buying the PS3, NEVER.

Us PS3 owners are elite gamers and sorry to the others who do not have the money to be able to afford a PS3. You all wanted a PS3 for Xmas but your parents bought you either a Wii or X360. A gaming console is a gaming console. One console is better than no console.

so ps3 owners are elite gamers? i dont think so try pc gamers are the elite gamers. pc gamers spend 600-5000 dollars for gaming computers to get graphics 10X that of the ps3. play much better games on teh pc. have better controls for FPS on pc's. 90% of games on consoles are on the pc. when i get the money which is more then a ps3 costs i wont be buying a ps3 but building my new pc which will pwn anything teh ps3 has to offer. its the ps3 fanboys like you that the sony PR are trying to please and apparently they do so by acting like ten year olds about it. it just makes me sick to see you say ps3 = 1337 cause it is not 1337. oh and btw i play WOW and everyone i know on there wants a wii to compliment their pc and alot of people i know of that owned a ps2 is buying a wii. so if you wanna go the console 1337 route then here is what you should've said....

wii = 1337

Even though he didn't call the Wii a fad, I honestly believe there's an ounce of truth in it. I mean, what reason are people buying it? It can't be for the games...and don't say something like Mario or Zelda as reasons, because otherwise, the Gamecube would have beat everyone last gen. Excite Truck and NinjaBreadMan aren't whats making people buy this system, it's the novelty of swinging that remote.......

...to play all the games. This helps to kill the "been there, done that" feeling that started to occur to more and more gamers in the last several years. Improving the graphics alone just doesn't cut it anymore which is reflected by the sales of the HD consoles.

...

You don't believe that people buy Wiis to play games in a new way?

No, they buy Wii's to piss off nerds who like HiDef graphics and online communities whose favorite color is brown... (Dammit, that's me.)

Edit: Disco is still going quite strong thank you very much.  I bet more people can sing along to more disco songs than rap songs.

I agree with you. I always believed that a song like YMCA is more recognizable than songs of Michael Jackson or even The Beatles.

OT: Am I the only one to notice that he only mentioned Rockband and Guitar Hero for third-party casual games? Of course he couldn't mention Dance Dance Revolution that is coming to every platform except PS3. I'm going to get DDR X later this year for my PS2. I can see why people are casual players are choosing PS2 over PS3.

I detect sarcasm and I must point out that I compared Disco to Rap.

DDR isn't what it used to be because of market saturation.

And @Obliterator, other than FMV and late generation (that was more like N64 control because of Dual shock) stuff that is just not true.  Do most action and Adventure games now a days play more like Super Mario 64 and Zelda or RE1, GTA1, and FFVII.  Why do you think so many FPS developers compare their games to Goldeneye and Perfect Dark?

PS did end up with the better line up in the end, with a better controller, and it turned around a mediocre launch to be one of the best consoles ever.

The first two years the PS1 was almost as bad as the 3DO.... It came out in December 94 in Japan and FFVII came out Januar 97 (26 months later)  there wasn't too much before FFVII but after there were tons of games.  More than 80% of PS1 games came out after FFVII in Japan.

Look at that chart and you'll see it happen.  You'll see the cross over in Japan.

http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=PS&reg1=Japan&cons2=N64&reg2=Japan&cons3=&reg3=------&weeks=156

But by that time Nintendo had already released Mario, Zelda, and Goldeneye, blah blah....

My point is Nintendo did it first, made money, but Sony did it waaaay better.  They took the analog stick- made it better on PS1.  They took 3D and made it better on PS2.

But N64 has it's place both for influence and profit for Nintendo.

Actually, I wasn't being sarcastic at all... The Beatles or Michael Jackson are huge but newer generations don't really get to listen to it if their parents weren't fans. Even if they do, chances are they won't recognize the song. While not as many people will know that Village People made YMCA but they will say "I already heard this song". Same thing could be said for other ridiculous songs like The Chicken Dance.

Also, rap is far from being as mainstream as people think. Most rap artists are replaced every 5-10 years. Just like with the alternative music. In 20 years, I say it's unlikely that today's pop and rap music is as recognized as YMCA can be.

And about DDR, DDR is doing fine. It just needs a little upgrade to renew interest such as DLC or something.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

Sony... JUST SHUT UP! God. I thought they had learned their lesson with the PS3.

@ gramps i understand you fully. they did exclude senior citizens and i think you have the right to be angry. this whole sony pr thing should make lots of people mad. for those that think gramps shouldnt get angry over this. what if sony said that about under 21 gamers? or middle aged gamers? or even the "hardcore" gamers? i think what it is, is that sony is getting more and more upset that they not only lost alot of their customers to the wii but they are losing as much and more money cause of their mistakes and trying to belittle the wii they are thinking maybe they can get alot of people to think like them like they did with the ps1 and ps2. the only difference is the ps3 isnt selling very well and the wii is selling like hotcakes.

No, I'm just saying that some people get upset at things companies say.  It was a tongue-in-cheek comment.  Notice I said that my father-in-law, who is 71, is upset with Sears for something that happened 45 years ago, when he was TWENTY-SIX years old.  He obviously wasn't a senior citizen then.

I`m still confused on what Sony is leading.

That's like saying the analog stick in the N64 made it a fad because people bought it to play games in a new way.

Where did the N64 end up?

It made Nintendo a lot of money, inspired 3D gameplay for the next generation, and has more games that generally excepted to be top of the genre in the last 15 years.

Ps1 has the honors of that.

Do you honestly believe 3D graphics began on the PS?  You kids these days.   Even the SNES was doing polygons.   Ever hear of the 3DO, Atari Jaguar?  How about the Sega Saturn?  All 3D console before the PS hit the market.

My PC scoffs at your PS3 and demands it clean my toilets.
