Well someone on another board pointed out that good graphics in a game show actual care was given to the rest of the game.

In short, graphics do matter. It's having the strongest processing power that isn't vital.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

That works in theory, but sadly doesn't prove true.

Rather, what usually actually ends up happening is that they concentrate too much on graphics and not enough on gameplay. Yes, the occasional game releases with both good graphics and good gameplay, but a lot of the time, it's either/or.

I slightly disagree. There are loads of games out there with good graphics but terrible gameplay. And quite a few with "not so very good"-graphics but very good gameplay.

So good graphics CAN show the amount of time/care/whatever is used while programming the game, but they CAN also be there to distract from bad gameplay :)

Some impressive stuff, but I won't be trying any of it for a few years. :-/

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.

Those last two games are coming for 360 as well...

We have this argument all the time.

Can someone name a game that was just merely a polished turd? That had absolutely awesome graphics, but ended up being abysmal, both critically and sales wise?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Well there are some exceptions, like DOA Xtreme Breast Physics 2

What made a game good fifteen years ago, and what make s agood game in this day and age has changed drastically. In the past, graphics weren't all that important since it wouldn't look very realistic one way or another. Back then the only thing that really matterd was gameplay. In the modern world of gaming, everything has become more and more complicated. Even the definiotion of a good game. cInstead of just worrying about gameplay. You have to take into consideration the story, the actual gameplay, the sound, and the graphics. All of those things are now needed to make a game good.

Genji: Days of the Blade ...

Beyond that it really isn't that hard to find games like that ... look for games that are being hyped because of how they look and are being published by publishers who are known to rush products.
