Forums - General - Who here reads comics?

Comic books, that is. Do you read them in issues, trade paperbacks, or online?

Just curious... I was a comic freak when I was younger and now a friend and myself (ProfCrab, actually) are organizing a series we're going to put online. We're combining a bunch of my past ideas with his ideas and completely changing everything around... Should be fun. I haven't drawn that sort of thing in years and now, the critic has to become the artist... W00t!

Anyway, I still read a few books. The Boys is a pretty cool series. I need to get back into some of the more mature comics... Any suggestions?

End of 2014 Hardware Predictions (03/03/14)

PlayStation 4: 12-15million

Xbox One: 7-10 million

Wii U: 8-9 million (Changed 01/04/2014 from 7-9 --> 8-9 million)

Never really got into comic books...I've been catching up on Frank Miller and Alan Moore stuff though, Watchmen's on the way, and I finally read through V for Vendetta.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Alan Moore's stuff is great. If you want something light-hearted and hilarious, I highly recommend the Bone series.

Frank Miller's early Daredevil stuff is also very good. It's unknown to most of the general public but is highly regarded in comic circles.

The Darkness.

I don't read comics anymore, but pretty much anything Alan Moore touches is usually good. He even made WildCATs not suck for a couple issues until he moved on to something else

I do read a ton of manga tho. I haven't drawn much in years, but I just started up again recently after purchasing a wacom tablet, and it's been a lot of fun. I don't have the patience to work with paper and blue lines etc, so working on a tablet in photoshop with layers is wonderful.

I use to have alot of old comic books from my Uncle from the 50's throughout the 70's...I use to have the second issue of Fantastic 4

I have boxes upon boxes in my house. After Civil War and Infinite Crisis (2006-2007), I've sorta stopped. I still buy the occasional trade paperback on occasion. You think video games are expensive?! Try following a big crossover storyline!

Try:

The Walking Dead (by Kirkman) - The best comic nowadays IMO (issue 48 was simply mindblowing)

Fables (by Willingham) - This man is a genius, his stories are complex, engaging, amazing. The storiy just gets better and better

Powers (by Bendis) - Though it´s first volume was much better (I would say one of the best ever)

Honorable Mention:

DMZ (by Brian Wood) - Good political comment on society
Invincible (by Kirkman)
