Forums - Sales - My analysis and predictions on PS3 sales and Sony profits.

Thanks for your answers, but I think that my numbers are most likely.

Only a clarification:

Blu-Ray was developed by Sony and is property of Sony.

I think that really sums of the angle of your post. Read the first few paragraphs.I dare you :) Will these threads ever end? Will the fanboys finally just let it go and enjoy the rest of the ride. Stay tuned for the Harcore of are Lives,  Same VG Time, Same VG Forum.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

But you jokes or what?

Remember this phrase?

Time Warner Inc's Warner Bros studio has said

it will exclusively release high-definition DVDs in

Sony Corp's Blu-ray format, dealing a big blow to Toshiba Corp's rival HD DVD technology.

Sony Corp's Blu-ray format!!!!!!    NO BDA Blu-ray format!!!!!

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/01/05/2132410.htm

BDA is only an association to allow other companies to join and broaden support for Blu-ray format.

Stringer is CEO of Sony Corp!!!!   NO BDA!!!!

In addition, Sony has lost 3 billion dollars with the choice to insert the blue-ray player inside the PS3 to win the format war.

And you think that Sony has done all this for future profits of BDA ??????

Sony initially lost 3 billion dollars for future profits of Sony Corp !!!!!!!

In the real world, Blu-ray is property of Sony.

We'll see in January 09 if PS3 is keeping up with the PS2 through the holidays or not.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

In the real world, Blu-ray is property of Sony.

No, it's not.

I like how his entire argument is based off predictions.

Exactly. It's pointless speculation clearly based on what he'd like to see happen.

why every SONY fan thinks that next year 360 sales will start to decline???

How do you predict PS3 is gonna beat the 360 by 500K a month (!) in 2009 when worldwide they've only sold 14.61 million since November 06, or roughly 700K a month total! That would mean either the 360 would have to drop to japan-level numbers worldwide or the PS3 would have to start outselling the Wii.

Everything else I wanted to say has been said before: 80M for Wii in 5 years is a real low estimate (By it's second year mark it'll have 35 M at least, so even if they never sell better than they are right now they'll have at least 87.5M (and i'm lowballing their holidays sales pretty hard.)

Plus, how can Blu-Ray be the victory of the PS3 when the price increase from the bluray player caused the launch price to hit 600$, and is the direct (some may say sole) cause of low PS3 sales?

Wii has more 20 million sellers than PS3 has 5 million sellers.

This analysis is a joke right? Blu-ray last 15 years you are kidding me. BTW: PS3 is not pirate free it can be hacked. Blu-ray sales will not really take off and will never catch up to normal DVD's.

The next console generation will see a different format medium. Nothing lasts more than 10 years in this day and age. Technology is advancing at a rapid pace.

The Wii sales forecast is way too low. I expect Wii to reach 150 million sales LTD by end of generation. X360 sales are about right. 50 million LTD for X360 is reasonable. PS3 sales I don't know, a bit too high. I do not believe PS3 would even reach 100 million consoles sold. 80 million is a reasonable amount of sales LTD for PS3 to obtain. People forget to take economic factors into account when trying to predict sales. Time will reveal all.

Until I see a  need for a higher resolution than 1920×1080 for home use, i see no reason for another format main stream.

dont worry bro , microsoft will make there own blu ray called rip ray which is actually blu ray and immune to lawsuits

(Erm... you realise the "era" of PS2 made Sony over $2.3 billion... and that includes losses from PSP,... (although it also includes some PS1 profits)... My bet is when PS2 is done selling, if we could seperate it out it would have made between 3.5 and 4 billion $.

The PS3 meanwhile (if we could seperate) has lost over 4 billion already, probably nearer 5

What what what??????

$2.3 billion ??????

But where you read these numbers??????

The real profits of Sony with Playstation family (PS1 + PS2 + PS3 + PSP) are $23 Billion!!!  NO $2.3 billion!!!!!
Source: Sony conference E3 2008 ( minute 23:20 )
The next year Sony has already recovered initial losses of $3.36 billion, for the choice to win the format war,
inserting Blu-Ray inside PS3.

Daxter, you might want to listen to that again.

"In fact, NPD has been estimating the gaming industry revenue will soar as high as $23 billion in 2008."

Let me break down this statement for you.....

NPD (this means US only) is projecting sales revenue (not profit) for the entire games industry (meaning all consoles, all games, all accessories) will total $23 billion for the whole calendar year.

Daxter, actual profits for the PS2 for the first 6 years were just over $2.3 billion dollar world wide. This is well known and documented.
