Forums - Sony - Witness to a PS3 non-purchase

I think most people on this board would be excellent sales-people, vrs the average joe that works at those stores. I often find myself grimacing  (and trying hard not to interject) when overhearing sales people/consumers at game stores.

Especially when parents pick up some clueless game for their kids (based on brand)... groan!

Most people here probably would.... Most of the time we have sane and easy to understand discussions. Though I think Blue3 might lock them in the store until they buy a PS3(j/f with you Blue3 LOL)

Spiderman 3... ugh, it probably even sold a few systems.

That's some funny shite man. Everyone here's right about people not doing/not caring about their jobs though..... I dunno, if it was my job to sell cow shit I would take the time to know what makes my cow shit better than the other guys, most people just don't seem to care.

EB/Gamestop employees get no incentives to sell consoles, so it doesn't matter to them.

 Didn't know about that...

What about the "bribes" that Sony was supposedly giving EB and Gamestop managers? That's not the point anyways, it's their godd@amn job to do it, shit head teenagers.

Ummm..... Interesting experience, I guess. I was expecting to hear something about the clerk telling the person not to get it...

That happens a lot according to people and I would be really pissed if that happened with me or around me. If I heard a clerk trying to convince someone to get a 360 instead of a PS3 I would literally do everything in my argumentative power to point out how good a deal the PS3 is and I'm sure I would out argue the average EB clerk lol

It's probobly never wise to try to get people to buy a console. The reason he might segest a 360 verses a PS3 is that for one, he sees them sell, not you. So he nows that sell=good. The other is 400<600. Which is why it's never good idea to try and convice people to spend a lot of money on something when you get jack out of it beyond fanboy glory. You could be the reason the man buys a product he doesn't like. So let him make his own choice.

You're right, if you don't have an HDTV, and there isn't one in the foreseeable future, then no BD isn't important. I don't know if you've actually seen a BD or HDDVD if you don't think they are better than DVD(all you have to do is find a BD with SD res special features and flip from that to the reg movie, and it's like WOWZER). Anyways, if you DO have a HDTV and you like movies then it's a BIG selling point......... I love the blu-ray =)

Those SD res special features look like crap by comparison even on regular DVDs.  They don't pay ANY attention to the quality of the encoding on the special features. Why should they, nobody cares about them.

Hell... compare a 'bad' DVD like Hellraiser III (one of the worst I've ever seen in terms of encoding) to a good DVD like LotR side by side and it will blow you away. The quality, skill, and effort put into the encoding is actually more relevant than the resolution in terms of Picture Quality.

Point is, comparing the BD movie with an SD special feature is about as fair as comparing a professionally mastered DVD to a cam-corder theatre rip stored as a VCD, and concluding that DVD is 'soooo' much better than VCD based on that. DVD is better than VCD... but its grossly unfair comparison. After all if you put the theatre rip onto a DVD it would still look like crap. And if a pro made the VCD using the DVD as a source using a hi quality encoder it may well be intidistinguishable from the DVD to most users.

And in fact, a very well mastered DVD looks just as good as a mediocre BD. And the number of BDs with mediocre encoding is shocking given that improved PQ is supposed to be the whole point.

So you're telling me a clerk convincing a buyer to buy somehting cheaper (360) over something more expensive (PS3) is good for the store? It's not which makes it even more problematic, pointing out how said person is really a fanboy...

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

No, I'm against it either way. Just that the store clerk actually gets something for it. His store makes money. So he can keep his job. You get jack. Nothing. The reason I say for YOU not to do it is becuase your better at controlling you actions. Confusion, I'm sorry. Basiclly, if you make him buy it and he dislikes it it's your fault. If the store does then it's the stores fault. Basiclly, your not innvoled besides being in the back of the line. Might as well not. Unless some one is looking around, then give them seggestions.

Well, it depends on how much the store profits per sale of said merchandise. For example, from what I have heard the Spiderman 3 PS3 Collectors edition costs $70, but the store only makes around $5 on the sale, while they make $7 on the regular $60 version.

I wish the people at EB/Gamestop would actually TRY to do their jobs...

It's not their job to try to move consoles.

Currently playing: Civ 6

To ckmlb - only if he's on the fence or walking out on the PS3 and bringing up the 360 could then get a sale that would otherwise be lost.

The average consumer has no right to choose for themselves, no telling what would happen. I am at least half kidding there..... Anyways if ckmlb or I or anyone else feels that a PS3 is a superior choice over the 360, we have just as much right and probably a considerable more amount of knowledge about all three consoles than the average Gamestop employee. Also, who says all we get from stopping someone from getting a turd in white plastic box, is fanboy glory, it's called doing the right thing ;)

In your opinion, of course.
