Forums - Gaming - Graphics: Killzone 2 or Gears of War II?

Using the screenshots you provide, Killzone 2 has smoother features where as Gears or War 2 has better lighting. Considering that GeoW2 is releasing this year and Killzone 2 next year then GeoW2 looks better as it is further along in the dev stage but i do expect Killzone 2 to look better by the time of its release.

End of 2014 Hardware Predictions (03/03/14)

PlayStation 4: 12-15million

Xbox One: 7-10 million

Wii U: 8-9 million (Changed 01/04/2014 from 7-9 --> 8-9 million)

One important thing that I think people are missing here: Guerrilla Games is a wholly owned first party developer for Sony is it not? Epic is wholly third party. It is amazing to me that we are comparing a first and third party game. You read into that what you want.

so we should compare Metal Gear Solid 4 with Gears of War 2?

What do you mean with smoother features? I think KZ2 has some great effects and textures, but at least the bad guys aren't smooth at all. Look at their helmets, leg covers and jackets; you can literally count polygons there.

Sure why not, lets compare a 70 millions and four years dev tim game, with, probably one year dev time and around 20 millions game... and the funny thing is that they don´t look like there is a huge gap between them...

By me:

Made with Blender + LuxRender
"Since you can´t understand ... there is no point to taking you seriously."

Gears 2, it doesn't look much better than the first perse, especially given that I'd stand by it as the best looking game on consoles, but the scoop seems so much grander,
Killzone 2 takes nextgen gray to a whole new level of looking dead, though it still looks great
....
anyone have any frame rate info about the 2 games as I find framerate very important in how a game looks I mean killzone 1 would have looked fantastic if it ran at more than about 10 frame per second
if killzone 2 runs at 60 steady it would be far more impressive than gears, but if both are 30 gears wins

Killzone 2 is far more superior in the graphics department. My only gripe is the lack of color.

Killzone 2 is way better from a graphical point.

Does this answer your question

IGN rates E3

Best Graphics Technology:
Gears of War 2

Developer: Epic Games
Publisher: Microsoft
Release Date: November 2008
Shown at E3 on: X360
Also Coming to: N/A

There were a lot of beautiful looking games at E3 2008, but none held our eye as long as Gears of War 2. Some very deserving titles made our short list, but at the end of the day, it was Epic's uncanny ability to squeeze magic out of the (upgraded) Unreal Engine 3 that wowed us most.

From the updated soft-body physics to the fantastic water effects and realistic cover destruction, Gears 2 reminded us why Tim Sweeney and the tech team at Epic are some of the best in the business. Not only does Gears 2 look pretty in pictures and HD videos, it also runs like a dream. In our lengthy time playing the Horde co-op mode at a Microsoft event at E3, we saw no slowdown, tearing, crashes or hiccups whatsoever. Here's hoping the finished product looks as good on launch day as it did in L.A

Runner(s)-Up:

Crysis: Warhead (PC - Electronic Arts)
Fallout 3 (X360 - Bethesda Softworks)
Killzone 2 (PS3 - Sony Computer Entertainment)

I retract my smoother features statement. I can't remember what i was thinking.

Killzone 2 and GeoW2 seem very very similar in terms of graphics, GeoW2 however seems to have better lighting (on that screenshot) while Killzone 2 seems to be more highly detailed and more care about where the lighting is actually going (on that screenshot). Now that i think about if the two screenshots where closer together it might be easier to judge, but they are just that screenshots so depending on where IGN got them they were probably Pre - Rendered.
