Forums - Gaming - Will SE support the Wii?

'Crystal Tools' is the new name of Square Enix's company-wide 3-D game development engine, and it'll support Wii.

gamesindustry.biz: Do you have specific plans for [the Wii]?

Yoichi Wada: Actually with the Wii, we also appreciate the core gamers - fans of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest (Games like DQS and Chocobo?). But we have various types of games, with content to satisfy the various types of consumers - not only casual games, but something like learning titles, for travelling, for wine.  WHAT? No thanks.

So we're ready to offer various types of content to various types of users.

Basically what this means is that Wada realizes that there are core gamers on the Wii and they'd be fans of DQ and FF and such. He says they have a variety of games that ranges from different genres and different demographics. They're going to have core games on it and some casual games on it (like the DS) to satisfy different users.

ALSO, do you guys know what the signifigance of press releases are? THEY LIST GAMES THAT ARE ANNNOUNCED.  Where are Soul Eater and FFCC:CB then? Just because a Wii game from them wasn't in the press release (which, like I said, ONLY contains announced games) DOESN"T mean they have nothing in development I know they may have something in development, but those traveling, wine and learning titles are not what people expect from a company like SE. If they had nothing in development, please explain why they ported over the Crystal Tools engine? Maybe to finish FFCC:CB like it was shown on the second trailer, because the first trailer was no doubt shovelware. Still why did they port the engine if they dont plan on showing games that use it, instead they made Soul Eater, which isn't shown either.

@vdoesnt

Agito IS in the FF XIII world. All FF XIII games are in the FF XIII would but have different stories and such. I know you didn't this time, but you always say that SE had 6 games planned in the FFXIII universe, got the link?? I couldn't find it anywhere.

@Soriku: Okay, oyou convinced me, let's wait till Jump Festa, but if nothing is shown by then, what would you think about SE? I will give up already and really wouldn't care about them anymore.

I still care that's why I want them to announce, but I hope the upcoming announcements are not wine catalogues, virtual schools or travelling guides, cause I will get banned from this site if that happened. (I know many would hope fot that to happen, since they want me out of here :P)

IDK about Soul Eater, but to me it seems they're going to rehaul some stuff in FFCC: TCB so it might not seem worthy to show yet. Don't think it's canceled though. Before E3 IGN confirmed it was in development, a NeoGAF mod confirmed it was in development yesterday, and also FFCC has its own studio at SE and they're not gonna go "LOL let's cancel this for the Wii for no reason at all and pay you guys for doing absolutely nothing!" -- it doesn't work that way.

As for the 6 FF XIII games, I can't find a link right now but SE showed some graph type thing with bubbles indicating one FF XIII games for each of the 6 bubbles which means there are 6 FF XIII games. In the bubble, FF XIII, Verus, and Agito were filled because those were the ones announced.

But if nothing's really shown at TGS from them then there's always Jump Festa in December to look forward to.

Soul Eater is being released a month before TGS is held. They are no going use floorspace and time on a low profile game that's been out for a month already. I have no idea why this concept baffles so many people, but I guess facts and logic don't really mean much when people start whining.

Also, I found the original graph with the 3 empty nodes:

http://www.finalfantasyxiii.us/wp-content/uploads/2006/05/fabula_nova_crystallis1.jpg

The 6 nodes does not mean there will be 6 FFXIII games - the number isn't even decided. It means there could be at least 6 FNC related products. It's polymorphic like the FF7 compilation, so it can take the form of novels, film, manga, or even an OVA.

Japanese talking people, help me there, my japanese is old and rusty.
There's written the goal for profit (if I'm not mistaken, or is it revenue?) below the images of the FFVII products and below the nova crystallis products. Oku means 1,000,000 right? I can't remember. So they got 500M yen from FFVII and expect 1B yen from Nova Crystallis, is that right?

As for SE, I think that will be their loss if they lose the Wii crowd. They're losing me already, I've lost any interest in FFXIII and all its derivatives. All of this is a mess that doesn't make sense to me. I can't help but feel lots of japanese devs are screwing themselves badly over this gen. I expect the landscape of who is good/bad and who does which kind of games, to be completely changed by the end of this gen.

SE puts lots of games on DS, but none are good support (remakes). Only the Enix part does some things decently. I feel SE is going down fast, and I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling that.

Just like Mistwalker. For me, the sales of BD+ are just confirmation of what I knew since a long time: they've made themselves irrelevant. Even Level 5 has to be careful.

I'm not in fear of my favorite genre becoming irrelevant, because even a SRPG like FE, which is supposed to be niche in the JRPG genre, sold more than most traditional JRPG on other consoles this gen. This just shows that sth is very very wrong.

That's how much they plan to spend on the projects, not make. FNC is getting twice the money pumped into.

Mistwalker has always been irrelevant, and it became frightingly apparent at ASH's debut. They came out of the gates supporting a console with their largest games that Japan has rejected, and as soon as they stepped into the mainstream territory, where anything can sell - the DS - the Japanese populous ignored their game because they didn't know who they were. Blue Dragon Plus experienced a similar lukewarm reception: it's related to the 360 game that only about 20 people in Japan actually own, and it's a RTS. That's like a double negative. I have no idea what they were thinking with that.

Level 5 won't become irrelevant because of Professor Layton. It's like their most successful original IP, it'll be what they're known for after they stop getting contracted for DQ games.

Square Enix isn't in irrelevance yet because they still have a lot of powerful franchises up their sleeves that they can deal out at any time (Mana, SaGa, Chrono). Their problem is that they hit a stumbling block because they made a lot of poor decisions at the beginning of this generation that they're just now getting around to correcting. I don't know who's godawful idea it was to put several high profile games on the cellphone but at least they're now being ported to the PSP. And multiplat FF13 is at least one step in the right direction, even if both versions are on the wrong consoles.

KH III for PS3...

About the 6 FF XIII games:

But this is really, really old, around the same time SE announced FF XIII. Back then everyone still thought the PS3 would lead the genration and the Wii would do Gamecube numbers at best.

To speculate: When you look at the size of the circles I think SE planned another FF XIII game for the PS3, another mobile game and one DS/PSP game.

TGS is over and still no new announcements for the Wii.
