I haven´t read every single post, so I don´t if anyone has mentioned it already.

I watched a lot as a kid, it was a craze here in Brazil. It´s called Knights of the Zodiac (here in the USA, it was called Saint Seyia)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knights_Of_The_Zodiac

I also liked Yu Yu Hakusho, Akira, Dragonball Z and Evangelion

There was also a program that would air each week a different anime (usually a movie not series), I would watch it every week. It was awesome. Sometimes I think about looking up new animes.

Can anyone name just a couple of really good ones? I don´t want too much options, I´ll feel overwhelmed.

Naruto, One Piece would be great If you have not much to do (there over 250 episodes.) add Bleach as well, many people enjoy the serie, although it had very good moments it has to move a little bit faster imo. Still watch every week though.

SoulEater is a nice newcomer, Claymore, Code Geass (divided in to two rebelions) , Trigun, Cowboy Bebop. If your finished with those I can give you a lot more.

(damn I already feel like I gave you to much, just try Naruto and One Piece If you want to spend some time, If not just pick some of the shorter ones.)

Thanks for the help SleepWalking. And yes it was too much . I´ll try OnePiece. Naruto, on the other hand, I´ve heard some things and didn´t appeal to me, sounded like something for people younger than me, but I´ll give it a try.

Now, maybe you can help me discover the name of one that I heard about. It´s about this guy who used to be a killer of some sort, but had a change of heart and decided to quit. But, a lot of people would try to fight him because of his reputation and he would fight them with a wooden sword so not to kill them. I think it has an X on the name. Do you know what I´m talking about?

You probably heard Naruto is an immature idiot and Sasuke is way more cooler or something like that, although that may be true in the beginning the character development is really good. I would not write this great anime off by what you have heard. I think many people might think One Piece is for a younger audience (while both of them are just shonen who are also enjoyable for adults). Naruto is often a little bit more serious (or sometimes more emo like sasgay aka sasuke). One Piece is much more about the fun and is very easy going, I love all the characters, and Luffy the protagonist is really funny. I think it really comes down to whether you like ninjas or pirates, but I like them both very much, Both the Naruto and One Piece worlds are really well done. you can read the first few (20-30) chapters of both mangas first then you can see if one appeals to you more, 20-30 sounds like much but it really doesn't take you very much longer then a hour.

About the anime you asked about, I think it's Rurouni Kenshin, but I'm not sure. The main character has an inverted sword which means the blade is on the inside, so he doesn't kill people accidentally (but it isn't a wooden sword). He's a former assassin, who now wants to help people and do good the world  but he gets bugged by his past.

Edit: Thinking about it maybe he did fought with a wooden sword in the beginning.

Oh I forgot, get the japanese voice overs, never even try the American because they suck. Plus for the American versions many things are cut-out or adjusted (too violent or things involving sex) .

Wow. Thanks for the help, SleepWalking. I´ll try both you mentioned.

I'm new to most series, but have seen my fair share of movies (namely Studio Ghibli ones).

Full Metal Alchemist - Loved everything about this series. The characters, the story, everything. Very touching and remains one of my favourite tales.

Scrapped Princess - While it pales in comparison to FMA, I thoroughly enjoyed this. The characters were interesting while the plot was lacking somewhat, in my opinion. Would definitely recommend

Rurouni Kenshin - Just started a few months back, stopped watching and am now getting back into it. Enjoying it quite a bit so far.

FLCL - Watched the first two episodes. Really did not like it at all. The characters were certainly wacky, but they were very uninteresting.

Movies:

My favourite has to be Howl's Moving Castle. I also thoroughly enjoyed:
Mononoke Hime
Spirited Away
Laputa - Castle in the Sky
Whisper of the Heart - very warming story that I think is often unfairly overlooked
Akira - My first anime movie, has haunted me (in a good way) for years
Porco Rosso

I thought Kiki's Delivery Service was charming, but it lacked the appeal that is common in most Studio Ghibli movies.

I also thought Metropolis was terrible. Hated it so very, very much. Perhaps I a exaggerating, but I didn't really enjoy it.

I'm open to any suggestions and am currently finishing Samurai X and starting Elfen Lied

I just watched the first episode of Death note

Was it me or did I miss this thread. Anyways I got nothing to do now....

Here are my favorites.
