carmack has somehow become the don cherry of game developement, all he does is talk talk talk talk....and his games arent that great

A loud mought japanesse developer: "In japan we have a saying, the louder the bark the smaller the dog."

How that fit's into context I don't know but yea Carmack has always talked his share, welcome to the internet btw. Before R*,IW,Epic,Insomniac,NaughtyDog, EA guy from E3 2007 and all the others there was Carmack, I have a quote saved of him when he was depressed about Doom 3 sales and I was laughing my way to the bank. (I save lol's) He was talking about his Wizard and Magic games for cell phones and was going on and on about how cell phones are the future of gaming. A guy like that isn't a game developer, any game developer would look at him and wonder how the heck is he one of the memorable designers in gamings legacy.

A game developer wouldn't confuse a brilliant engine developer with a game designer

Carmack is a genius at developing graphic engines for games and pushing that envelope but he is also a bit crazy. He talks a lot because he always has an opinion and I think the guy loves to talk shop. He isn't the best game designer though. Doom 3 and Return to Castle Wolfenstein could have been a lot better.

I give this thread a 9.6.
