THQ: multi-format development shouldn't be a problem

Red Faction producer says developing a game for both PS3 and Xbox 360 'shouldn't really present a problem'.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com at a post E3 Red Faction: Guerrilla event in London, associate producer Ismael Vicens explained that developers should not be facing development difficulties when producing titles for both the PS3 and Xbox 360.

"I'd say that each console while they have strengths and its weaknesses depending on what area, if you really are developing a game that can take advantage of multiple cores, if you design your systems in a fairly good manner, it shouldn't really present a problem," said Vicens.

He added: "I think that might have to do with the time frame in which they decide to go multi platform or tart involving multi platform. We knew early on that we were going to be multi platform and so we got a lot of tools in place that really assisted us in figuring out how to develop and hit targets on both platforms equally."

After some early quality problems relating to PS3 versions of games also released on Xbox 360, it would appear developers have finally got to grips with PS3 development.

can we finally see equal quality multiplats then?

well, i dont see why many of the devs are complaining about ps3 development. If insomniac and others can produce high quality games i am sure other devs can to

Multiplatform development isn't a problem at all if you're dedicated to producing equally crappy games across every platform like THQ.

That's because Insomniac and Level 5, for example, work very closely with Sony who actually know how the PS3 cells work and that's why they can make high quality games while other companies hit snags and obstables

Snippy, but very true. I actually mentioned that THQ makes crappy games, but Naznatips came up with a list of "good" games they're going to come out with (the only one I remember is De Blob). Wonder if I could still find it...

Insomniac doesn't make multiplatform games, thus they obviously wouldn't hit the same problems.

As far as Volition is concerned. If Saints Row comes out equal on both platforms I'll believe them. As of yet though they don't have any backing that they can create an equal experience across both consoles. We'll see what happens this month.

@Words of Wisdom-Bravo sir! Brilliant deduction.
