Forums - Gaming - How long until the Wii becomes the most expensive among the 3?

Companies drop prices based on sales. If sales drop to a level where they think they have sold out at the current price then they will drop with the hopes of pumping up sales for another period of time.

Think of it as steps. Each step has a number of people. Once these people have all been sold to, then its time to go down to the next step and next group of people. Right now the Wii's current step still seems to be flooded with people who are willing to buy it at $250 regardless of what anyone else offers.

360 in Japan and EU is less than the Wii. By all accounts the 360 will be cheaper than the Wii by these holidays. Sony may feel the need to match that price reduction with one of their own, pushing them down to probably around $350.

That would mean you could get a 360 for $50 less or $50 more than a Wii depending on your need for a HDD and you could get a PS3 with a bluray player for $100 this xmas.

Sure on face value it looks like Wii would be hit hard by this due to feature set alone. However, price and feature set are not the most important things people look for when they buy a game system. By far the most important factor is games.

"Wii" series of games and others similar are what is driving Wii's main sales throughput. That is obvious by just looking at the top software. I don't think EA is the #1 software publisher anymore. I bet Nintendo has reclaimed that spot as well.

At the earliest Nintendo will drop the price sometime next summer if sales drop below this year's average. That probably would coincide with another series of price drops from MS and Sony as well. Just look at the DS. It has only had one price drop a long time ago prior to the DSLite. Once the DSL launched the need to pump up sales with a price drop has never occured. The game selection alone has kept up the DS' sales. The same with the Wii. Hell, Nintendo will probably put out additional colors prior to a price drop to see if that alone would get the desired affect.

So to answer the specific questions, No the Wii will probably never be more expensive than any PS3 model however, it may be more expensive than the Pro 360 at some point next year depending solely on Nintendo's sales curve as compared to this year.
