So what's rage about anyway.

Yeah... this is the first time i've even heard of this game... and i'd like to think i'm pretty well informed.

And the downplaying has begun.

No... I was actually curious what the game was about.  Nice assumption though.

It's related to ID Software though eh?  Have to look out for it then.  They make some awesome games.  Can't wait for more info on the new Wolfenstein.

Not really, is relevant to this aproach (royalty fees), but in general, he never said that spliting should be tech issue, is more a money issue...

I imagine no one would like 4 disks for a shooting game.you might disagree but general public if given the choice, would choose one disk over 4 .

But thats just preferences, FFVII came on 3 disc, and still was a success, this end up on personal choice...

ff7 was a hella long RPG with ps1 graphics and lot of FMV... not a full HD game.

if developers are choosing to mandatory/optional install mean is the future there must be an advance to it, remenber ps3 also read dvds, but they not releasing games like metal gear solid 4 in 6 DVDS dual layer

I just watched the new trailer, I am hyped.

It's like a movie, Driving and Action in a post apocalyptic desert world... Id has the action down, if they get the driving right this will be cool.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Royalty fees to make a game 3 discs?

Um, no?

To be quite honest, I don't know a single developer who would come out and say that. I label this article fake.

I agree with you, Shadowblind. I've never heard of royalties being paid by disc. This article smells fishy.

I thought the price of "royalties" per disc was already included into the price because the disc manufacturer pays them. 3 DVDs would be cheaper than one BRD

Actually DVD royalties are silly high... one of the advantages of Blu-ray is that it's thought the blu-ray consortium won't be able to get what the DVD guys were highway robbery.

Final Fantasy 7 also could of fit on 1 CD.

The only reason it was on 3 was the FMVs. Each CD has copies of EVERYTHING on every disc except for the story events.

Not relvant i guess... but it's interesting.

Here we go again :)

MGS4 is not a full 50GB game there is no proof of it...

Second, the issue with the space is this, they are pushing really high res textures:

"The demonstration with which the new game engine was shown had 20 GB of texture data (using a more advanced MegaTexture approach using textures with up to 128000x128000 pixel resolution) and a completely dynamically changeable world."

No other game use this feature...

Third... why sony would allow to launch games on DVDs if they are promoting BR???

By me:

and ps3 only 1,5 year on the market.)
PS3 is FUTUREPROOF.

Soon or later This would happen..)

Nothing is futureproof.   Don't get too cocky.   There will always be something bigger and better to displace it just like every market.  And sometimes its the more creative one to displace it.

Well at least the dude is honest.   I'd agree to simply due it that way than on 3 DVDs because that makes it a lot more difficult to mass produce and more expensive on them.

I wasn't aware of the existance of this game.

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

If hes using textures that big im picking its gonna require at least a 5gb install! :) Try streaming THAT from the blu ray.

Tease.

I haven't heard of this one until this thread. Maybe Mr. Carmack has gone public in an attempt to force Microsoft's hand on the multi-disc royalty issue.... Or, maybe he even went to Microsoft and he threatened to go nuclear. MS maybe called his bluff. Who knows. Business can be ugly...

Kn I think he wants the media to blow up so MS would be forced to allow him to put the game on more than 2 disks.Casue in this genre MS doesnot allow more than 2 disks unlike RPG.his new  engine is 20 GB alone(for this game and Doom 4)so he needs to do this once so that MS would not cause problems for doom 4 either in near future.

Forcing MS to do anything will be worth the price of admission. This clown Carmack is about to get own3d. News at 11.
