so a 3rd disc's royalty fees would be that much higher(yea okay)

it's due to genre,,,It's like MS doesn't want a shooting/racing game to hit 3 disks so they increase royalty fee too much to make it feasible,,,,,,,for instance RPG can go upto 5 without increasing too much

So what's rage about anyway.

Yeah... this is the first time i've even heard of this game... and i'd like to think i'm pretty well informed.

And the downplaying has begun.

Nobody was making noise about this game before this tread came along.

ive never even heard of it

They were pretty quiet about it.

Ah I see so PS3 can have larger scale shooters and racers?

You left out the more relevant portion of the quote:

id's post-apocalyptic open-world shooter Rage (PC, PS3, 360, Mac) will look worse on Xbox 360 due to the compression needed to fit the game's assets on two DVDs, programmer John Carmack revealed at tonight's QuakeCon keynote.

multiplats?yes ,,,but some developer will limit them selves in size to the lowest denominator(which is 7-9 gig on 360)and some Like this developer care for their game rather than the lowest-size medium available.

This is a very interesting thread and should stay near the top as long as possible

Well as far as I know Carmack is pushing new tech with this engine (Called megatexture), with the purpose of making more realistics enviroments, probably thats why he said it (Two dvds with tons of huge textures is not wnough for him), the interesting part will be how big is the difference...

"The demonstration with which the new game engine was shown had 20 GB of texture data (using a more advanced MegaTexture approach using textures with up to 128000x128000 pixel resolution) and a completely dynamically changeable world."

Edit: Some people need to understand that this case in particular is due to the Tech of the new engine, and this is only the wet dream of Carmack, he want to put the Tech5 as a new and competitive engine (Like UTE or CryEngine2), so far this is the only game using it, and probably there is not going to be many of them... like Tech4 (Doom4,Quake4 and Prey)... is a hit to the 360 yes, but is not a big hit...

By me:

Made with Blender + LuxRender
"Since you can´t understand ... there is no point to taking you seriously."

I find it's best to let the quotes speak for themselves.  Lest you get labeled a troll again. :P

Also, the extra royalties per disc explains why BioWare tried so hard to cram Mass Effect onto a single disc.
