Why do people think that if someone gets an HDTV, oh immediately the best complement is the PS3? The 360 outputs 1080p, has HDMI, has HD movie downloads and HD games. Even if some of them are 720p (and for PS3 most is still 720p anyway), you CANNOT differentiate it to 1080p using the naked eye unless you have 50 inch+ TVs.

Lets not forget that Blu-Ray adoption in the US is not going on a rocket growth anyway. All Blu-Ray really gives is extra space, 1080p only visible difference on 50 inch+ TVs. And only ~1% of all movie titles are out in Blu-Ray, and ~90% sell through is still DVD. And if you havent noticed, Hollywood isnt exactly in the healthiest and most creative state in its lifetime at the moment.

And we know who is going to win based on software as well.

bolded is wrong :)

I would love to know whats right then.

But keep in mind, if youre gonna tell me you can see the difference when you really look closely staring right at the pixels, then this is moot. It is indistinguishable when sitting at the recommended viewing distance for your TV size. And this comes from looking myself and talking to a hardcore Sony fanboy.

I agree, but you know whats really funny? If they can tell the difference between Blu Ray and DVD upscaled then they can definately tell the difference between 1080p @ 60hertz vs 720p @ 25-30hertz. So why would they settle for crappy visuals on the PS3 when the PC obviously does it much better and if you're anal about stuff like this, then the extra expense/hassle of a PC is definately worth it.

I have a 53" LCD TV, I played a blu ray and I was like... hmmm, so thats it? I paid $10 extra for that? Etc etc.

If I want good visuals I plug my PC into my TV, if im not in that mood then the difference between the Wii/PS3/Xbox360 is moot because I just wanna play.

Tease.

With the economy so bad in the United States, not in the numbers you think.

I think that with bluray winning the HD format war average consumers are going to be looking for a bluray player this year. HD TV sales will be bigger then ever and so will the PS3's. I predict PS3 outselling 360 2 to 1 q4 for that reason alone.

Note: I'm sure some would argue that 360 will sell more then Ps3 because of games but that argument sounds like somthing that would have been valid in 2006 and not so much today.

Dude, it's a video games console. Last time i checked, they still play computer games today.

yeah no one buys a game machine to play games....now excuse me i have to go watch dvd's on my wii...oh wait.....

I think compared to the ps3 it is,nt A great deal.

PS3 is much better value than the 360. Can't dispute that.

MGS4!

The debate is strong with this one

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

the only thing that its holding ps3 from totally beating microsoft its them paying for timed exclusives.

and its only slowing down the inevitable.

ps3 its alot a bang for the money, alot more reliable hardware.

For the most part what he is saying is true (link):

CAN YOU SEE THE DIFFERENCE?
That's the key question. "If you have 20/20 vision, you would need to be closer than 2-1/2 times the screen's picture height to appreciate the quality of 1080p," says Richard Doherty, co-founder and research director of The Envisioneering Group, a technology assessment and research firm. "Otherwise, you might as well be watching 720p."

Here's a graph for viewing distances and the following (link):

For the same screen size, the benefits of 1080p vs. 720p start to become apparent when closer than 9.8 feet and become full apparent at 6.5 feet. In my opinion, 6.5 feet is closer than most people will sit to their 50" plasma TV (even through the THX recommended viewing distance for a 50" screen is 5.6 ft). So, most consumers will not be able to see the full benefit of their 1080p TV.

Also, there's been research that the average consumer cannot tell the difference between Blu-Ray and an upscaled DVD.  Just some food for thought with the 1080p argument.  There's no doubt there's a difference, but when viewing distances comes into play, it's diffinately bordering on using the full potential of our eyeballs ;).

Bluray makes upscaled DVD look like a youtube video.
