Forums - General - Is Los Angeles a good place to go on Vacation?

no, I went there a few years back, horrible place. The only redeeming factor is the theme parks.

my advice, don't go, San Francisco is near and million times as nice

It depends. If he's only going to hit one area of Cali, it depends on what he wants to see.

If it's historical stuff, San Fran. It's a much older city. On the other hand, LA has the Getty museum which is absolutely amazing. If he wants relaxation and beaches, he can also hit San Diego. If he likes a circus atmosphere, there are few places better than Venice Beach (LA) or the Hollywood strip.

LA is worth a couple day tour. There is a lot to see and do. The LA area is huge . . . huge on a scale that many are not used to. The best thing to do is develop a plan of what you want to see and stay somewhere near the beach.

San Diego is nice too, but don't look at is as an alternative to LA to getting the same experience. If you want to see LA, do some reading. You can't just drive into LA and know what the big things are to see. Just make sure to account for traffic in your traveling around LA which means it is a good idea time the places you want to see so they are close together.

LA is not the kind of place you go to for a relaxing vacation. It is the kind of place you visit to see things. If you want to relax after visiting LA, then I recommend staying in a less crowded city or town along US Highway 1 somewhere between LA and San Francisco (there are a few of them).

I give this thread a 9.7.

Cambria is best if you're coming out of LA, Big Sur is better if you're coming out of San Fran. Monterey is also awesome (love that town). Remember that Cambria and Big Sur are extremely remote. There isn't much to do other than see Hearst Castle (which is absolutely amazing BTW) and drive up PCH (my favorite road in all the world, absolutely breathtaking).

I would give a few years before visiting Big Sur, a wildfire recently went through that area and got really close to the town, even burning some buildings around it.  Probably not the best vacation spot at the moment.  Those other suggestions are great though.

I give that post a 9.6.

i suggest you vacation in the virgin islands instead much better tha l.a. as well as anywhere else

I asked this because I would one day like to see most of the USA, so LA would be one of the places to visit along with; New York, Boston, Aspen, San Francisco, Miami, New Orleans, Dallas, etc. Not too keen on Las Vegas though.
