Forums - Microsoft - Why are tales of vesperia expectations so high will they meet expectations?

Eternal Sonata has only sold 260k worldwide LTD according to VGChartz data.

I do not see Tales of Vesperia selling more than 300k worldwide LTD.

Tales of Vesperia will need to be ported to the PS3 which has a bigger fanbase for frustratingly difficult JRPG's.

I can not believe Lost Odyssey has not been ported to the PS3. Lost Odyssey has sold well under 500k on the X360.

500k to 1 million sales is required for a X360 game to break even.

This is reportable: you are posting two things that you know are lies, one the sales numbers for lost odyssey, other the possibility of it going onto the ps3.

It wasn't so long ago a mod issued a strong warning to you for posting outright lies, don't you remember?

Current-gen game collection uploaded on the profile, full of win and good games; also most of my PC games. Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts 1982-2008 (Requiescat In Pace).

I am going to get this game, but I anticipate selling somewhat poorly and going down to $30 by next spring, so I will get it then. I think it will sell about 400K WW.

I think Tales Of Vesperia could end up anywhere from 500k-600k LTD, looking at all other JRPG's on 360.

Enchanted Arms             Blue Dragon               Eternal Sonata            Lost Odyssey
           [2006]                            [2006-07]                     [2007]                      [2007-08]

America:      140k                            220k                             180k                          460k
Japan:          N/A                             210k                               80k                          100k
Others:        N/A                               60k                               N/A                           210k

As you can see the highest selling JRPG on the 360 is LO which should end up around 800k-900k LTD, so it is'nt impossible for TOV to sell somewhere around that. Will it? I don't think so but it will do better then Blue Dragon in America and Europe but less in japan.

Ehm, and you know that because?

There's not a single RPG on the PS3 yet, for all we know the first one (and when is that again?) will be the bomb of the century.

Besides: LO sold pretty well, and Tales is at least a known franchise.

That is unless Infinite Undiscovery is marketed very well and overshadows ToV.  A Tales game being overshadowed by a Final Fantasy game isn't suprising but ToV being overshadowed by a new IP would just be embarressing for the series.  ToV will still atleast manage to meet Namco's expectations(500K)

I like how topics like this get created cause of fanboyism and people wanting it to sell bad because on a system they don't like or something

The fact of the matter is the game will be great. Has anyone played a tales of (main game) that has been bad?

It will sell, maybe 400k.
(meant to be vague)

Good scores so far for TOV, it might do very well

All of the Tales games(the mothership ones, anyway) have gotten above average reviews but only Symphonia sold well outside of Japan. Reviews have little to no impact on a game's sales. Hype and marketing is what affects the sales of a game. Outside of Symphonia, none of the other games were marketed well in the West. Japan, on the other hand, gets a big marketing campaign for every mothership Tales game.
