Forums - Gaming - Should I buy a PSP or a DS tommorrow?

Psp, its got everything you need.

You can also download PSP games, demos, and even movies off the PSN store with the PSP, something the DS will never be able to duplicate unless it is pirated.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. get a psp it is the whole experience and ds is for kids

Question: do you expect anyone to ever take you seriously with comments like this?

yes i do because nintendo has said its target gamers age was 8 years old for many of there franchises

Would you be so kind as to produce this quote in context?

And, after you've done that: are we supposed to ignore the hundreds of other, non-Nintendo, DS games?

the other games like Poniez 2, my dogz 2, bratz and movie games? Honestly I can't think of more then 3 or 4 adult oriented games on the DS (brain age and related games are more or less it)

Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2 should be (has a very simplistic story unlike the classic original), Trauma Center Under the Knife, uh... uh... Brothers in Arms DS? That last one got crap reviews though.

A agree, PSP has better games. DS certainly has more though, and has something for everyone.

According to Meta Critic, DS has 98 75 or above rated games, while PSP has 113. Quantity over quality. DS is kinda kiddy, but IMO its worth having becuase the 1st party is great. Too bad it has all but dried up. Also, old first party games are roughly $25 on amazon so you won't save much. Alot of PSP games are really cheap though.

To OP- since you are in the navy I think you would like PSP better. It has more violent games which I am assuming you like (I persoanlly don't like em, but I love platforemrs and quiky games and SRPGS, which PSP has alot of. Honestly PSP has great games for everyone except casuals, but thats where the money is nowadays)

If you get a PSP, get a screen protector. The screen scrathes easily. Get the Red or Silver PSP. Black shows smudges.

I don't even know how to respond to this...

Whats the problem? PSP has many portable console game type games, and very few games that are good for car/plane rides, though it has them. Being on a boat, portable console like games are ideal. PSP has many vioent games, and the OP has an avatar of a man holding a gun witht he word "iKill" next to it. I am assuming he likes violence.

I was trying to be hlepful in my post, not insult Jerseyboy.

If you like games DS is the only answer.

The DS vs PSP debate is much different from the PS3 vs PS360 one.
DS has an astonishing library. Really beats all current consoles in content by far.
I'm playing The World Ends With You right now, and I'm absolutely amazed by its greatness.

So whether you ever really thought about buying a DS or not, as far as handhelds go there's no better than DS whatsoever.

I am not a huge rpg fan, I think I might get a psp, just because I have a PS3 and they have similar functionality...also the games are compatible, plus features. Overall, even though DS has more games, the PSP has better quality titles. I always enjoyed quality over quantity.

Wow, just wow. Why did you make this thread? As for the Quality, and Quantity debate, the ds and psp have about the same amount of quality games NOW. But the ds has more in the future. I think this thread should be locked, because it seems like flamebait to me.

Just get both, the games on both are too good to be missed.

I think it is most comparable to this hypotetical-

It is two years in the future. Wii has 65% market share and 85% of 3rd party support. Wii is $200, 360 is $250 for the standard model, and PS3 is $300 for the standard model. All 3 systems have a strong backlog of games, but PS360 support is quickly drying up, despite hardware sales remaning fairly strong and continued 1st party support. Piracy on 360 is rampant, and PS3 also has piracy issues. 360 still has a good online community.

That is sort of what the situation is with PSP and DS. Regardless, I find PSP more fun to play, but DS the better device. I like PSP more though.

So not choosing the DS makes him an idiot?  That's some well-thought-out logic.  I hate to break it to you, but not everyone thinks the DS is the greatest thing known to man.

Believe it or not, some people actually DON'T like it!

Of course not, but if you read the OP and this post you notice that he already made his choice before making the thread. And then you see him bashing the quality of DS titles.

Edit: Also if he doesn't like it why even ask which he should buy? The answer is obvious. All I see in those two posts are reaons why the PSP is better than the DS in his opinion.

You can't really argue that either has better games just that the have more games that cater to different people.
If you like action, adventure, platforming, shooters go with the PSP, with it's button/nub layout it's the perfect match.
If you like games that aren't action but turned based, puzzle, point and click, fashion designer/pet owner/chef/waitress/surgeon simulators, Sega CDesque games where you pretend you in court watching FMV-like videos etc. Go DS, the touch screen and stylus are the perfect match.

Don't forget to read my post. I've tried the DS first hand(when stretching your thumb 4" to the centre of the handheld doing motions that dried up my thumb grease after 15 minutes on a screen that has subpar responsiveness for anything action related) with high expectations that I almost knew I wouldn't disapointed in. What I got was a gimmick touch screen that did nothing but ruin most action, adventure, shooter, platformers. I sold it and definately going PSP in 2-3 weeks, the videos, pictures and music are great but mainly for the games.

Don't look at hardware sales and just go with a DS because "it must be better for me".  I work selling these things and %70 are under 12 that want to play Dogz or Catz or Nintendogs or casual adults that want to play lawyer and surgeon simulator games.
