Atlus today announced Devil Summoner: Kuzunoha Raidou tai Abaddon Ou (Kuzunoha Raidou versus the King of Abaddon) for PlayStation 2. The game takes place in 1935. A mystery case has happened in Tokyo, but soon spreads to shake not only the Japanese capital, but the entire world. The developers aim to increase the number of demons by 100%, compared to 2006's Devil Summoner: Kuzunoha Raidou tai Chouryoku Heidan. Furthermore, the game's size has also been increased significantly. Atlus is promising an overall evolution that goes beyond creating a mere sequel to Kuzunoha Raidou tai Chouryoku Heidan. The kind of evolution promised by the developers would normally be expected from a third game in a series, not the second title. Newcomers to the series will be able to enjoy the new game without problems, though.
System-wise, Kuzunoha Raidou tai Abaddon Ou will offer real-time battles with action elements. In battle, the protagonist will now be able to summon two demons simultaneously. As for Raidou himself, he will have access to more powerful skills, too. Fans of classic Shin Megami Tensei gameplay will be happy to hear that demon conversations are back, meaning players will have to use their negotiating skills to make demons join their party.
Collecting information will be key to solving the game's mysteries. As he moves from one location to another, Raidou can summon one demon to accompany him through the various sections of the field map.
Devil Summoner: Kuzunoha Raidou tai Abaddon Ou will be available in Japan on October 23rd for 6,980 yen ($64.82 USD). A plus edition shipping with Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne Maniacs Chronicle Edition will hit Japanese retail store shelves on the same day for 9,980 yen ($92.68 USD).
