If the software retails for $50/unit, a 3rd-party margin is closer to $20-$23/unit (as they have to pay Sony a license fee/production fee per unit).

The reality is, that for *most* 3rd-party, big production titles - they have to go cross-platform to have a better chance of recouping all these costs.

Yeah, that's what first popped into my head.

Break even point for a 3rd party exclusive of similar caliber probably runs closer to 2 million, without financial support from Sony. Which is why MGS4 is pretty much the only 3rd party PS3 exclusive that hasn't decided to go multiplat.

This is a "I pulled it out of my ass, isn't it pretty?" sort of estimate. Not every game has to sell a million to break even on disc. All this individual is REALLY saying is that DLC takes far fewer sales to break even. Outside of that, all we really know is that using the full power of any non-Wii console requires a lot of time and effort and doing so is a gamble.
