I would believe it. I got Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil exactly one week before it came out because target put it on the shelves early.

PC Gamer

Retailers get shipments in weeks before they are suppose to be released and an employee puts them out early.  I remember a similar story where Target had Mass Effect out a week early.

Figure MS already has all the 60GB HDDs sourced and packaged. It's not difficult to just slap a sticker on the box to specify the extra storage. They did the same thing for the holiday bundle where the games were added into boxes and marked with a sticker.

The real question is whether the new 60GB SKUs will have the Jasper MoBos.

My guess would be that there is probably still a fair mix of Falcons in assembly bins, and it won't be until sometime late in Q3-Q4 that Jasper 360s are standard.

Why do people think that Jasper is replacing the Falcon?

OK. Falcon was a 65nm chip to replace the 95nm 'CPU' chip. That stays the SAME!

Jasper is a 65nm chip that replaces the 95 nm 'GPU'.

Many people believed the CPU was the big cause of the heat problem. It was only the cause of a minority of problems.

The GPU was the cause of the heat problems. The way the airduct inside the 360 was designed was flawed as it was far thinner (because of the DVD drive above it) that didnt take the heat from the GPU efficiently. With a smaller die for both chips it means the heat will be less and the airduct problems become non exsitant. That is why modders who guaged the temperature of the CPU and GPU will tell you that the GPU was always 6-8 degrees hotter than the CPU.

So Falcon and Jasper will be side by side in the same console to bring heat even further down. Hence why the problem should once and for all be done with.

Actually, selnor, the term Falcon describes the entire make-up, not just the chipset. So, Falcon means the motherboard revision to hold the 65nm CPU and 90nm GPU. So, Falcon isn't side-by-side with Jasper, because Jasper is another motherboard revision to hold the 65nm CPU and 65nm GPU. There is also an Opus build they are using in some of the fixes when people send in their boxes.

And, when people say it cost the same as the 20GB USED to cost, it was BEFORE the price cut. It doesn't cost 299, it is 349. And the release date is August 4th, not mid-August.

I did say it was selling at the old 20 gb price.
