Forums - Nintendo - Joystiq voters prove they can't see beyond E3.

I hope nintendo announces core games later this year so no one will longer complain.

I don't really get the backlash here. E3 is the one time during the year that the mainstream press pays attention to video games. Obviously then what you really most should be talking about is your casual lineup, since it's about the only time you can get that information out to the casual audience. Look at how huge it was for Wii Fit last year. Showcasing anything hardcore at E3 thus is a waste of time since the hardcore will pay attention to you the other 364 days of the year anyway.

That's true, but as Onyxmeth and I have wondered aloud is "where are the games?" E3 is the only smart place to announce your Fall lineup and Nintendo didn't really show up with much. It kind of gives gamers the sense they're not paying attention to what they're clamoring for.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

Not announcing games at E3 is not proof they aren't making games this fall.

And even if they are not releasing that many, you forget DS 3rd party support was weak until Nintendo did THIS EXACT THING with the DS. They got in a few killer apps, and then held back on games after a year and a half. The third parties came in, realized their games DO sell on Nintendo systems.

It was only AFTER that when 3rd party support for the DS turned into what it is.

Nintendo isn't abandoning the hardcore. They're likely just using a sneaky trick to get the hardcore back.

You know, that actually sounds plausible.

It took Nintendo a lot longer than 1 1/2 years to lay off DS support. That puts the DS squarely in mid 2006 when New Super Mario Bros. came out. Plenty has come out since then across many genres, including that Fall of 2006. Nintendo didn't stop the DS support until the third party support was great enough not to miss it. Is the Wii's third party support vast enough in quantity and quality like the DS's is to warrant the same approach? I personally don't believe so. Also the DS last fall came out with both a Legend of Zelda game and a Mario Party game, amongst others. This Fall is the first they are truly holding back. Third party support was raging forward since before that.

Also the claim that Nintendo doesn't want to showcase core games at E3 is a load of bull. I distinctly remember seeing both GTA and Call of Duty 5, amongst a collection of Star Wars titles showcased there. Nintendo just had nothing to show. Does anyone really expect something else to come out of the woodwork at this point? It's going into August already.
