Forums - Sales - Nintendo -Europe now bigger than Americas in sales revenue

I posted this as a comment to the financial report news story, but I think it deserves its own topic.

Ratio of overseas sales to consolidated net sales:

The Americas - 39.6%
Europe - 42.8%
Other - 6.5%

Total - 88.9%

Probably a lot due to the weak U.S. dollar, Europe has now surpassed the Americas in terms of sales!

Do you think this will have a significant effect in Nintendo's strategy?

Nah they will still screw the Europeans over.

^And rightfully so, I might add.

We got Austria after all.

I don't think, that it is only the weak dollar. If you check the weekly Europe/Other statistics on vgcharts, then you see a lot "blue" entries every week.

However, I still think that we europeans will be screwed like always. I still wait for a PAL-Release of Baten Kaitos II (GameCube).

Dangit! My text dissapeared. Well, I said that it was because of the weak dollar, I mean they do take 80% extra pr game.

Just to add it.

April through June 08

Others
Wii Hardware: 2.2M
DS hardware: 3.3M

Wii software: 13.5M
DS software: 8.1M

America:
Wii hardware: 2.3M
DS hardware: 2.9M

Wii software: 11.8M
DS software: 11.2M

Oh, actually, it isn't just because of the weak dollar. Europe is now on size with America for Nintendo products.

Remember though; I haven't included sales of Nintendo produced software, which might be more important.

is that some kind of joke?

@headshot91: He was likely referring to things such as SSBB's delay.

FY 2008 Q1 shipments:

Wii HW (Americas): 2.50m
Wii HW (Others): 2.15m

Wii SW (Americas): 19.34m
Wii SW (Others): 17.16m

NDS HW (Americas): 2.71m
NDS HW (Others): 3.65m

NDS SW (Americas): 14.33m
NDS SW (Others): 17.33m

Wii + DS HW (Americas): 5.21m
Wii + DS HW (Others): 5.80m

Wii + DS SW (Americas): 33.67m
Wii + DS SW (Others): 34.49m

Nintendo IR

So, more units of HW & SW were also sold in Others than Americas. Obviously Others also includes countries outside of Europe, but Americas also includes countries outside of North America.

Americas is still Wii's biggest market, but Others is DS's biggest market.

The growing market in East Europe will probably make Europe the biggest game market somewhere in the next couple of years..

@BKK2: The revenue figures are comparing Europe to Americas, your figures are comparing Others to Americas. It's not a perfect comparison.

The software (and probably hardware) figures for Europe seem to be smaller than the ones for Americas, while revenue is clearly larger. However, your last remark is probably correct - the difference in revenue would be even bigger if it wasn't for the price difference between Wii/DS games. The currency difference is big, even after eliminating taxes from European prices.
