I know its odd using a nintendo mantra for this type of discussion but "Quality over Quantity" is my bet.

EDIT: I only say this because I played both prequels throughly, and gears was much more enjoyable. But who knows, Resistance 2 could turn the tables, theres not much to go by.

It's not even gonna be close.

Gears 2 is the better game.
Better graphics, better online play and it will also sell a lot more.
