Console wars be stupid... FACT!!!  There is always going to be competition, but that should be in the business realm.  And using the word "fanboy" you have to be careful with.  In nothing else, having personal preferences and being a fan is fine.  But when those preferences lead to hate and disrespect, those fanboys need to shut up and find a new hobby.

If you are referring to business competition, I will agree with you that it helps boost sale.  But in regards to people being hateful and disrespectful to other because of their console of choice (and I've known some personally), then no.

People become a fanboys, because of GREAT games and GREAT experience on their consoles.

PS3 is only its way to its GLORIUOS days. =)

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

 

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.

Soon you'll even be able to understand why people love and buy the Wii.
Normal people never have any problem with me having a Wii on a big 1080p HDTV.
But if you'd believe the fanboys, it doesn't make sense and look like crap.

Graphics aren't everything, that much is true, but to say that gaming peaked with FFVII is a little harsh also. There are a lot of good games out/coming for the latest consoles that have excellent storylines and are generally fun to play.

Also the two games you listed are both great RPGs, so far in these consoles lifetime, we haven't seen very many traditional RPGs, and certainly no SE ones on PS3 yet. But hopefully that will change soon and we'll see some excellence here also.

Anywho, don't give up hope, being a fanboy is the best!!

I dislike people that promote and argue about their or others choice of console. It all seems so pointless to me, I much prefer talking about games. Good to see you've grown up :)
