Forums - Gaming - Have your favorite games this geen been Original IP or Series Continues?

There are a lot of titles this year that are 2's, 3's, and 4's. There have been some great new IPs as well. I've grown very tired of "been there, done that" games. There have been some greats -- i.e. Call of Duty 4, GTAIV, etc., but I really like to try out new IPs.

Some of my favorite new IPs this Gen:

Wii:
Boom Blox
Red Steel
Wii Sports

PS3:
Heavenly Sword
Uncharted

360
BioShock
Eternal Sonata
Gears of War
Viva Pinata
Mass Effect
Portal
Rock Band

And so on... Yeah, there have been some great continuations is series (Super Mario Galaxy, COD4, MGS4, GTAIV, and so on) but I'm really liking the new IPs that have shown up. Here's to hoping that the 2s, 3s, and 4s become the exception rather than the norm going forward. Clearly there are some great things on the near term horizon. Lots of JRPGs, LBP, and so on...

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)
Systems I've owned: PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, 3DO, Genesis, Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES, GBA, GB, C64, Amiga, Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Game Gear, Vectrex, Intellivision, Pong.  Yes, Pong.

Around the Network

Call of duty4 and Devil may cry 4.

A mixture of both

Yeah, a mixture. old is good, but I like new.

My favourite games this gen have been

Ace Combat 6
Assassin's Creed (new IP)
Burnout Paradise
Call of Duty 4
Gears of War (new IP)
Grand Theft Auto IV
Mass Effect (new IP)
Motorstorm (new IP)
Resistance: Fall of Man (new IP)
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (new IP)

so 6 new IPs, 4 old, though I had never bought a Burnout, or an IW made CoD before

Around the Network

Let's see...

Condemned: Criminal Origins
Bioshock
The Darkness
Super Mario Galaxy
Portal
No More Heroes
Rez HD

Aside from SMG and Rez, all new IP. So, I guess mostly new IP.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

Definitely that mixture of both :P Seeing some of my favorite classics re-touched with modern technology has been a very amazing experience for me ^^

My favorites thus far into the generation have been.

Heavenly Sword (New)
Uncharted (New)
Resistance (New)
Bioshock (New)
Motorstorm (New)
fl0w (New)
Everyday Shooter (New)

But then my other super awesome favorites have been...

Warhawk (sort of new...ish...)
Ratchet and Clank Futures
Devil May Cry 4
Burnout Paradise
Unreal Tournament 3
Super Stardust HD
Metal Gear Solid 4
and a few others that would be considered part of a franchise :P

I'm definitely liking the mix, and I'm really glad Sony put a decent emphasis on getting some new IP's out that first year. I'm quite hooked on a few titles ^_^
