Forums - Nintendo - Ubisoft is clear. It was just one troll in their company tricking us.

EDIT: This is just about myself, not other users who have issues with Ubisoft.

I'm serious. Some companies state that if employees mention online that they work for that company, they have to make it clear any comments are just their opinion and not the company's position. The reason is that those companies know those comments could easily be mistaken for the company's official position, even if the employee does not claim it is.

Ubisoft may not have that rule, but the fact is that moderator worked for the company and was on their official site. That is reason to think what he says could be the company's position. And he never once stated it was just his opinion. The closest thing he's done is state after the fact that he never stated that it was the official company word. But he never stated it was not.

This says to me he was trolling. He wanted people to get riled up.

But since that was just one asshole, and not the company, it's clear Ubisoft doesn't think the Wii audience is nothing but lazy impulse buyers, which that guy claimed in so many words. The fact that Ubisoft has been working on Red Steel 2 for months, and is not using the Motion Plus to make sure the controls work this time, shows that they think more of gamers than just sheep. This is also indicated by them holding back the new Splinter Cell game, instead of just rushing it out. Plus they showed they are willing to publish core Wii games for smaller developers (unlike whatever company told HVS to crap out The Conduit).

In short, I was tricked into thinking Ubisoft was a bunch of assholes. It was just one asshole using his position in the company to give his trolling credibility. My issue with Ubisoft is no more, as it was based on false information.

Can I get a link to what your rant is referring to?

This seems like a reaction to the news about Red Steel 2, right? I wouldn't be so quick to jump to optimism, my doubts about Ubisoft's support will remain until they release a Wii game with a decent effort behind it. The moderator hack was just a blip in the radar, not that important.

It was great to hear about Red Steel 2 supporting MotionPlus though. Here's hoping that they're changing their ways.

Changing their ways? Ahh, I see. So now they're a company releasing crappy AND good games for the Wii instead of just crappy games all over. That's definitely an improvement! Heck, I'd say Ubisoft has really turned over a new leaf.

@MontanaHatchet: Eh? What good games did they release?

As far as I can see, I only count some OK games like RRR (which I bought).

I thought they were going to use Motion Plus?

No, I was pointing out that Ubisoft has always been a terrible developer, with only a few good games released among countless failures (not that the quality affected sales).

Perhaps you misread my post.

Not speaking for others. I should have made that clear in the OP. Oops.

My personal issue was not the shovelware. It was that I though Ubisoft was treating an entire audience of gamers like idiots, as in core Wii gamers didn't exist, and that casual gamers buy crap like sheep.

It wasn't Ubisoft. It was just what one employee stated. I brought this up with my friends, and they told me their companies have strict policies about discussing the company online. If it isn't the official company position, you had better make that clear, or you could get fired for publicily misrepresenting the company.

That is what that guy did, publicly misrepresented the company. I don't know if Ubisoft has a policy for that, but my point is that I know now that it's not actually what Ubisoft thinks.

Yes they release shovelware. But that's not the only thing they are giving the Wii, and Red Steel 2 just finally seals that. There were other hints, which I stated in another thread, but this just clinches it. Ubisoft is not just a crapping out publisher when it comes to the Wii.

You change your mind very easily LordTheNightKnight. Ubisoft has yet to announce a good game for Wii and you're already happy with them just for announcing they'll be using Motion Plus? So far all they did was cash in at launch because there was little competition back then. After that they didn't release anything worth mentioning, they actually didn't even announce anything great or even remotely interesting. As for Red Steel 2, they might just try to be the first company out to support Motion Plus just to cash in on being first again. There really is no guarantee it will be a great effort.

And if Montana meant the quality of the games, I'm not going to argue on subjective opinions. I just meant what they thought of the Wii audience. They know the Wii audience has more than just parents not paying attention to the games they buy.
