Dang, Carolina has to play Pit and Indy. Good thing its just preseason. It will also be when all the closet Steelers fans come out of hiding in North Carolina.

Preseason certainly matters. A number of personnel decisions are made based on performances in these games. Not all of them involve the starters, but injuries are common enough in football that the second-stringer has a good chance of being the starter at some point.

For instance, the Steelers are set at the starting wide receiver position with Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes. But they have a host of players competing for the other three spots, and while training camp will go a long way towards sorting that out, sometimes you need to see these guys actually competing to make your decision.

We have a Bears fan here: Their quarterback situation may be resolved by who sucks less in the preseason, Grossman or Orton. If they both suck tremendously, which is not out of the question, the front office may be finally convinced to trade for a real quarterback.
