LOL at Nintendo making the Magnavox Odyssey.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

xbox and xbox 360... brought online gaming to consoles (in a coherent and complete way) for the first time. You can thank them for all the multiplayer goodness we now have. Before that the developers didnt think the home console market had an appetite for online gaming.

Sega says no.

Sega would be right. The Sega channel was out way before it's time. This is another example of Microsoft "innovation".

Intellivision did direct-to-home software delivery more than a quarter century ago (pre-dating the Sega Channel):

Admittedly without online play ... but still, it was a longtime ago.

Also, there was a company called Gameline that delivered games over the phone lines for the Atari 2600. You probably have heard of them by their current name: America on Line

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Nintendo did have a console before the NES in a way though... wasn't the colecovision something to do with Nintendo?
