Forums - Sales - How much Tales of Vesperia will sell in Japan?

I think its funny that there are all these JRPGS on the 360 yet the Japanese populous' stubbornness and Xenophobia keeps them from playing their most loved genre of games.

What the japanese keeps from playing 360-games is the quality of the console itself, not the games:

- The Xbox360 is noisy

- The Xbox360 has a big problem with the RROD

- The Xbox is clunky und ugly

And my point was that the hardcore JRPG fanbase is itty bitty.

And to add, the series in a huge decline in sales. The top 2 selling games were on the PS1.

Actually the top 2 selling games in Japan are on the PS1 and PS2. I also don't consider about a 200k difference between them and the last big seller in the series to be a "huge" decline.

Tag - "No trolling on my watch!"

Soul Calibur IV (Xbox 360, Bandai Namco): 9 / 9 / 8 / 8 - (34/40)
Mobile Suit Gundam: Operation: Troy (Xbox 360, Bandai Namco): 7 / 7 / 6 / 7 - (27/40)
Tales of Vesperia (Xbox 360, Bandai Namco): 9 / 9 / 8 / 8 - (34/40)
NBA 2K8 (Xbox 360, 2K Sports): 7 / 7 / 8 / 7 - (29/40)

From Famitsu

Anyone know how that famitsu score for Tales (34/40) translates to other recent tales games?

At any rate:

80k First Week
150k LTD
15k Hardware

Would love to see this do more, but I'll be conservative. Either way, it will sell about 60% of it's LTD total on first week, regardless of what that number may be.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

It's a point lower than Innocence, 2 points below Abyss, it's 3 points higher than ToS:DotNW, and the score is the same as the original Symphonia

Innocence:9/9/9/8(35/40)

Abyss:9/9/9/9(36/40)

ToS:DotNW:8/8/8/7(31/40)

ToS:9/9/8/8(34/40)

The score for ToV doesn't really count though since it is from Famitsu 360 and not the main Famitsu magazine

Or they play them elsewhere.(DS)

Well yeah.... I love me some handheld JRPGs also, but sometimes you just want an epic console JRPG and the PS3 and Wii are not giving that.

I never played it but from what I can tell, the Golden Sun series seems to be pretty epic

It definately was, but there aren't many more handheld specific non-port RPGs that were epic. I'd say Jeanne D'Arc was and I really can't think of any more.

What is your definition of Epic? I just want to know before I start naming some games. (:

I was just asking the same thing.

@Cactus

Ever heard of the Fire Emblem series?

In my opinion, for an RPG to be epic it has to have a perfect mix of storytelling and atmosphere. Many handheld RPG's have great stories but they can't nail the feeling of console RPGs when it comes to immersing the player in the world that they are trying to create. This is just my opinion though, and don't think I avoid handheld RPGs becuase I have a shitload of them.

what does it mean to immerse the player in the world?

But there isn't that many, compared to other genres. I mean, we've got 2 above average JRPGs (Lost Odyssey and Eternal Sonata) and that's it. These JRPGs you're speaking of may be on handhelds but the topic on consoles, specfically the 360, and thus my statement remains.

And again, regardless of any platforms JRPGs aren't the big sellers they used to be. I'll be surprised to anything cross a million that isn't DQ, FF, or Pokemon.

Why? Did someone stop buying them or something?

It's because they are on Xbox360. Microsoft paying Japanese companies to make JRPG is slowly alienating the JRPG fanbase in Japan.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

Well, the JRPGs on the PS3 and Wii will keep the JRPG fanbase from getting too small
