Forums - General - The Dark Knight "influence" from Metal Gear Solid is shameful

Girl Gamer Elite said:

I honestly have to agree.

It seems like the movie tried too hard to present a story that begged a very simple question which was then extrapolated needlessly as the sole substance of the plot. Like Metal Gear Solid 2, it took a fairly simple underlying commentary and made it a confusing mess, spinning its wheels in its redundant progression while trying to explain the same message over and over. Let us also not forget the frequent trailing off of the movie to follow tangents of the story and characters who were only ever meant to be supplementary to the larger story. Like Metal Gear Solid 2, the story didn't really know where it wanted to go or how to get there and rellied on the ambiguity of the story telling and presentation to create the illusion of something that is greater than what it truly was.

The fact that you were able to twist a complaint about TDK into a way to bash the MGS series' storytelling ability and narrative structure is actually pretty impressive.

If I gave you a paperclip, some wire, and a bit of pocket lint, could you turn it into a 2 paragraph expose on why the PS3 is an oversized paperweight too?

Hahaha DTG strikes again.  Another post of 100% pure gold.

You have to understand, in DTG's world Mario games probably steal from Kojima because they have great gameplay.

Btw, someone mentioned The Watchmen.  I am fully prepared for that movie to blow.  There is too much there for just one movie with complex themes and I am not convinced those working on it have the talent to make it good.  I think there are few people that do.

I give this thread a 9.9.

Thank god for the disable signatures option.

After having watched this overrated but mediocre movie it's hard not to be beaten over the head with all the apparent coincidential similarities to MGS.

Batmans raspy voice, which came out quite forced seemed like a nod to David Hayters Solid Snake as the two characters sounded essentially alike (besides the fact that SS sounds much more natural having done this voice for over a decade)

The thematics and pseudo philosophies of TDK also quite overtly borrowed from MGS. The themes of chaos, control, manipulation, heroes, anarchy, etc were simply too numerous to be considered merely nods to MGS. Much like The Matrix practically ripped off Ghost in the Shell (and did a poor job at that) TDK quite shamefully borrowed almost complete lines from Kojima's games. Some of the lines of being a hero (or not being one), of chaos and control were so similar to dialogue used in MGS that it felt almost distracting while watching the movie.

That TDK made such shallow use of Kojima's deep thematics was ever so aggrivating, not to mention the fact that I had not see the director or writer admit to MGS serving as an obvious influence is what makes this all the more shameful.

Good God, man.

It is obvious you have never read a Batman comic in your life. There were no themes in TDK that haven't been explored pre-1996 in Batman comics more times than I care to count.

Zack Snyder will make the film visually impressive at least, but can he tell a good story amidst all that style?

Hopefully

Yep, you are right. Batman was a completely new story and character created for this movie. And they were heavily influenced by MGS. I think they didn't want you to realize this by traveling back in time to establish Batman before MGS was actually released. They fooled us all!

Well DTG, this is more outrageous than your discussion about how Kojima is a better storyteller than anyone in the last century. You have only posted 3 times in this thread and these posts are more ridiculous than all your other posts put together.

Wow, wow, wow.

For DTG's (and humanity's) sake, I hope he was just trolling.

He probably wasn't.

What confuses me the most is how the underlying themes of TDK and the MGS series aren't even the same.

Apocolypse Now and the MGS series, now those have similar themes. I wish someone would ask Kojima about that some time. He'd probably admit it, being the movie buff he is.
