Why are people arguing against this feature? You don't have to use it at all if you don't want to.
The mods can only ban people that have broken one of the forum rules. Being an annoying fanboy is not against the rules.

Can mods get banned? Do mods ban each other?
Those are the questions

I've asked for this as well. I certainly see both sides of the argument, though. Everyone thinks THEIR opinions should be read and heeded. Once implemented, a lot of back and forth will just die. As much as I wanted it before, there is an occasional comment (VERY occasional) that I'd like to see and would have missed...

=p A lot of people would not have been banned if they could ignore a user.... For example when Crazzyman post some users get so angry because of his comment(sà like Neos =p. And I probably never have been banned if I could ignore one person who is a mod. But I am not going to write his name because 85% of the times I wrote his name I got banned so...

Ok Ok... hey.. calling me your kryptonite is actually quite a compliment. So my very word rendered you helpless and unable to respond in any coherent or forceful way? cool. Im venturing into the murky world of online gaming with the PS3 tonight (RFOM)... anything I should know or is it pretty much a la 360?

I went on RFOM (a game i own and cherish) online and was instantly put off by the fact everybody else is now an expert on it. Play COD4 instead.
And you just sign in, and join the lobby. Its the same in theory as XBL.

You want an ignore button because you don't want to see jokes?
To reiterate my view from the other topic, from what I've seen, the ignore user feature is only necessary if the moderators do a poor job of maintaining the order on forums. GameFAQs, for example, has been completely overrun with trolls for years due to a combination of an impotent moderation system unable to judge trolling by intent, and a remarkable tolerance for straddling the line. This increased the "noise" on the forums to the point where it was necessary for the user to control the "signal" themselves (i.e. through a user ignore function, which had to be filled in by a Firefox extension for some time due to reluctance by their admins to create one of their own for years). Here, though, the moderation team seems to be doing a good job of keeping the trolls under control, which makes it much easier to factor in dissenting opinions, as people expressing those opinions are more likely to be simply offering an alternate perspective than flamebaiting.
As for the de-evolution of threads into arguments, even if you could ignore other people to try to maintain one thread of discussion, by that point the "noise" has increased for everyone. That means that by that point, it may be better to split your own thread of discussion off into its own topic anyway.

I dont think an ignore button is required. I bet a lot of people skip over half the responses in a particularly long thread, and miss the trollish posts
