Forums - Gaming - Potentially Big News In Multiplatforming

As a basic exercize to demonstrate my point, take major game releases (like MGS, Halo 2 and FF) and calculate the ratio of users who bought these games upon their release; after that calculate the ratio of users who would need to buy these new games in order to match the sales from the previous versions. If I were the CEO of a major corporation I'd be fairly worried about my bottom line if I was releasing a game exclusively for either platform.

highest selling FF game released with a used base of 10 million, they really dont need more then that to sale many millions.

They did say no FF untill april 08

Ya but I remember SE saying something that there most concerned about Japan.

If that's true, SE just grabbed a big ol' gun, loaded it, pointed it at their own foot, and pulled the trigger.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

You know what? Sony should act as though they have no exclusives and focus on the most kicka$$ first and second party outout they can make. That way if they do lose FFXIII, we might still have Wild Arms 6(?)  and
hopefully Legend of Dragoon II to play on the PS3.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Well, it launched in Japan when the PS2 had a userbase between 4.75 and 6.85 million units sold in Japan and Final Fantasy sold about 2.5 Million units (the next 600,000 units came over time); this would mean that (roughly) 50% of users bought the game ...

In every region Final Fantasy X was released in the PS2 had a larger userbase than the PS3 will likely have worldwide in 2007.

You guys should use the translations the GAF'ers did. They cleared it up perfectly. He said even though it was built with PS3 exclusivity in mind, multiplatforming it to other consoles was and is not impossible. Now he doesnt say 360 he says consoles. But Im willing to bet he meant 360 and not Wii, unless they really decided to use a touched up ps2 engine or something. But who knows, what was apparent though is that he removed that "This game is PS3 exclusive no matter what" image that SE has had so far. He made it clear that it could easily happen. Thats a massive switch for me. This holiday is going to be unbelievably important for Sony. He also makes direct mention of the game being able to sell enough to make good profit on it.

One thing people here seem to focus on is whether or not the PS3 will have enough of a userbase to have the game break even. Those previous FF titles on 10m userbases dont count this go around. You guys KNOW gaming budgets have made a overly incremental jump this gen due to HD. These epic HD games are costing MORE than the games last gen by a good deal, and they arent spending 25-35 million dollars to sell 2m WW and get a 1m dollar profit. You dont front that type of money to make barely anything back. You are wanting to make ALOT back. Tack massive marketing costs (remember lost planets 20m marketing? Expect something similar for a game like FF13) and you have a LOT of ground to make up if you want large returns. It only makes sense, and its not surprising to see them finally acknowledge it.

Huh?

Theres the google translate for you. Almost as hard to figure out. I am trying to look for some good areas work on understanding.

Huh. Don't know what you guys are seeing, but my translator says:

"三人目の質問です。FF13について、Xbox360での展開は無いのか、普及台数が低いPS3で出していいのか、マルチプラットフォームなどを検討していないのかどうか。また、PS3が難題出た時が採算分岐点は何台になるのか。"

As you are all aware, XBox360 owners who subscribe to online play have their internet porn habits tracked and fowarded via email to their mothers and grandmothers. On the other hand, PS3 owners appear to be suffering from shunken genital syndrome, a side effect of BluRay emanations.

From what I understand, it pretty much says they haven't ruled out porting FFXIII to the 360. They say that even though it is being designed specifically with the PS3 in mind, it is not the case that they couldn't utilize everything they've accomplished elsewhere (multiplatform). But, this is a very poor translation on my part, and would like someone who could do a much better job.

I'm Japanese. You're basically right about the translation.

He's saying "Even though there is no change in our original plan (about it being PS3 exclusive) at the moment, it could be ported to other platform (at least theoretically).  We'll see when is a good time to do it.  (As to which platform) the number of console sold in the market is an important factor (for them to choose which) but the momentum (that console has in the market at any given time) is also important.

the momentum (that console has in the market at any given time) is also important.

Wii has the most momentum =P.

Nah, it wont go to the Wii, although I would personally love to see FF return to Nintendo but it wont happen with FFXIII and I doubt FFXIV. This quote does give some credence to the FFXIII X360 crowd though.
