If you look at an average middle-class family you'll see that having about $1000/month of cushion after taxes and bills is considered an uncomfortably small amount. You'd rather have more so that you can save more for retirement or it wouldn't be a big deal to buy a car, etc. That being said, $50 or $100 per months on top of your normal entertainment budget is actually very little -- going out to dinner as a family will cost you over $100 at any decent restaurant. Doing anything will cost a lot more.
If you are employed in your twenties, and you have no family, you may have tons of disposable income (maybe $2k/month or $3k/month) to do whatever you want with after your bills and rent. Games are a very cheap form of entertainment compared to many other hobbies.
i worked at Eb games (gamestop) so i got a little discount now i dont and get more money. i pretty much buy everything i want when i want.
lol...the innocene of youth...being skint...etc.
Trust me when you've "got a job" you can basically afford what you want within reason but you'll find that games don't have quite the same luster they once did and 1 a month is plenty...
also try the bargain bin, I always used to pick up loads of budget stuff for under a tenner (on the ps2 there was the platinum hits for example, all top games)...That or I bought them and took them back for a refund (back in the good old days when "game" would take back games) even if opened...
You work hard for what you buy and you get so much more fun out of it, trust me. You only being able to afford a game every couple of months is prolly a blessing in disguise!
I buy around one game every month, mostly second hand, never ever at full price.
When I was younger, during the SNES era it was a dark age of gaming. If it wasnt for the fact that I knew a guy that did reviews and owned every single release I wouldnt have played many games that generation. A SNES game back then could cost up to around $145 here in Sweden.

My mom and aunts buy games for me usually but I will buy games myself if I can pay for them. I get atleast 1 game a month

Ive seen some people with 50+ games and the only way I think you can have that many is by either saving them throughout the years or being "spoiled." (Sorry thats for lack of a better term) If you work Im sure you have to pay bills and what not and cant spend so much money on games. This also goes to people who bitch about no new games. If you havent played whats already out there why do you care about what coming out. By the time you played all the games that are already released new big titles will have already been announced/released. |
I buy every major game that comes out on the Wii so depends how often big games get released.
I work (a bit too hard for my liking) and pay loads of bills but given that I have a very good job and Wii games are about £30 to £35 (at Asda) I don't really think about the cost at all. Problem isn't really being able to afford to buy the games it having the time to play the games. I have bought Boom Blox, Pro Evolution, Trauma Centre and No More Heroes and barely touched them at all.

I work two jobs, and one job is all I really need to pay my bills. I go on video game binges, on a monthly basis. There's hardly anything on store shelves that I want, but don't own. Unfortunately, working so many hours, I don't have much time to PLAY the games I buy. Maybe one day I'll get lucky and break my legs. Then, I can finally catch up on my massive library.
I buy a game every 2-3 months, and get them for christmas and birthdays. That is all
