Forums - Gaming - Sony and Microsoft reverse Roles?

Ok, so Im sitten behind the counter at my job, Gamestop, and i get to thinking(very dangerous)!  I start to ponder about the upcoming games I might like the most. I kno I like RPGs after growing so fond of them on ps1 and 2. Yet of recently all ive bn playing is games that entail guns!!??  I at the moment only have a PS3, as I saw it to be the proper investment. So far the PS3 has  TWO RPGs!!!! Which is only made more bazzare by the fact the 360 has like 5 already!!!! Now if I remember correctly, RPGs were Sony's main thing. They ALWAYS had the largest and BEST line up of exclusive RPG games for me to fiest on. SO WHY do i find my self eyeing the 360's RPGs accross the room? Mass Effect and Lost Odyssey are the only ones that appeal to me but the fact is PS3 has NONE that appeal to me that r OUT RIGHT NOW! But what I DO have to work with right now is shooters. Ive become fond of Resistance, Uncharted, MGS4, all entail guns. Yet I still miss my good ol fashion swords and magic. This got me to realize something. THE PS3 HAS MORE TOP TIER SHOOTERS THAN THAN THE 360!! KILLZONE 2, RESISTANCE 2, HAZE(JUST KIDDING), ETC. While 360 has the ones previously stated as well as Too Human(not my type tho), Fable 2(overrated),Infinite Undiscovery(Infinite=Final, get real SE),Last Remnant, and now FFXIII(GTFO SQUARE!). Now besides IU, FFXIII, LR, ME, and LO. 360's games are pretty Meh! to me. Nevertheless they still have the lump sum of the RPGs which is greek to me becuz the RPG FANBASE IS ON THE PS3! SAME FOR THE SHOOTERS ON PS3(exclude MGS4 cuz its not FPS). Is it just me or does it seem like Sony and MS have completely switched roles this go round. They r trying to tap into each other's market by getting into each other's main focus yet alienating their already existing fanbase. Someone tell these idiots to snap out of it and bring everything back up to status queue.

It's amazing that this post is so poorly formatted but not entirely without merit.

It's quite true that Sony has gone full out to try to take the "shooterbox" title away from the 360: or rather, they have made an effort to steal fans away from the 360. And Microsoft has made the same move back at Sony, by trying to take away the JRPGs. The result? Two systems with very similar libraries that continue to beat the crap out of each other while the little runty system runs away with all the loot.

Most of the RPG's on the X360 are timed exclusive and they will make there way to the PS3. JRPG's besides FF series are niche. I have never met a gamer who cares about JRPG's or even likes FF games.

Lol so very true(and that post was poorly formated, sry). I tend to ramble. I want my RPGs back tho for my PS3. Ive read in some reports that no RPG on 360 has sold over a million yet or something. So im like, y the hell did they get FFXIII? Doesnt that PROOVE that going multi doesnt boost a games actual sales(or in this case going to the system weaker in a particular genre). I mean it really doesnt matter how many RPGs go to 360, RPGs will always be seen as PS's thing. Same for shooters (although I always saw PS2 to be much more well rounded than its opponent the xbox).

Isn't that exactly what everyone has been saying about the PS3 exclusives recently?

Personally I don't see the big hype around the FF series either, and I'm an RPG fanatic. :/

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Exclusive games are pointless unless it is made by MS or Sony or Nintendo. Third party exclusives will become less and less over time, third party can make more money by porting the game to both PS3 and X360. Business is business. By having multi-platform games of third party games PS3 and X360 owners both win and the third parties themselves make more profits through more game sales.

Maybe you meant jrpgs?

hmm I somewhat agree but I do know that this thread can possibly be flame bait for 360 fans. Especially the part that u said that the ps3 now has more top tier shooters than the 360, that is stepping on another gang's turf. Honestly, the jrpgs i want from the 360 r rumored to be going multi plat (ToV, SO4, we're already getting ES) and one of my most anticipated games is exclusive to PS3, White Knight Chronicles. The jrpg library for PS3 will be fine, more than likely the jrpgs that the 360 has/will get will maybe get ported over and we will definitely get more exclusives, (especially when developers like Atlus decides to move up to the PS3).

All in all, I don't think that we should worry, it just seems that PS3 is trying to capture more of the graphic whore (console*) gamers with FPS and other shooters and then attracting the more deeper gamer with JRPGs. One thing's for sure, MS will have the most WRPGs (doesn't matter to me, I don't WRPGs [EEWWW OBLIVION!!])

*Had to make sure I edited that in before somebody like SSJ comes in and slaps me with the newest video card.

I fixed it for those who care to keep their eyeballs in their head.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
