Forums - Gaming - Soul Calibur IV 360 vs PS3

I agree with the dreamcast (and arcade) versions of the original being the best. Two wasn't quite as good and I didn't even bother buying three. Hopefully Soul Caliber 4 will turn it around till I can get Tekken 6 and never look at my SC4 again.

Wasn't the GC version of Soul Calibur 2 (at least in America) a higher seller than the PS2 version just because it included Link? Even with a huge userbase difference (much more than the PS3 and 360 difference), the GC version still came out on top.

Now we have one version with Darth Vader and one with Yoda. Who do you think is the massively superior character here? Due to the popularity of the series on Sony consoles, it's very likely that PS3 and 360 sales for the game in America will be close. With that in mind, the PS3 version will decimate the 360 version in PAL and Japan, there's no question of that.

The situation is pretty similar to Devil May Cry 4, so you'd have to have a pretty small amount of knowledge about the market to claim the 360 version will sell better.

The worst part was Link was a total disappointment, he just got owned left and right which was weird since he was so good in the SB games. I bought the GC version for him and used him only a handful of times.

They'd better give Vader some decent force moves, don't want a repeat.

Oh come on, Darth Vader or Yoda? Is that even a choice that requires a second of thought? Do you want to bounce around or use the force to choke your opponent? Do you want to be the evil warlord of the galaxy or a green muppet hermit?

PS3 all the way. Vader more then makes up for me having to get the gamecube version because Link was > Heihatchi with Soul Caliber 2. Its kind of funny they didn't go with Boba Fett for the 360, somehow that feels more fitting.

And when you say the 360 sells better you mean US only right?  Worldwide it is becoming more and more a PS3 marketplace.

I'm talking WW. I hope no one is confused. Also, if the Kratos rumor is true, thats a super boost for ps3 version sales. In fact, on amazon.com, SCIV is the current bestseller for ps3; on the contrast, it is number 5 on the 360 bestseller list. In addition, ps3 owners are hardcore enough that of the top 5, SCIV limited edition ($80) is number 1 while the regular version is number 3. On 360, the regular version is selling better but ranked at number 5!

Well, yes, the the ps3's lead in others and japan is smaller than 360's lead here. By install base, I did mean worldwide, since adding it all together the 360 is still ahead..

first of all, ALL FIGHTING GAMES ARE AUTOMATICALLY BETTER ON PS3. the controller is well more suited and will provide a better gaming experiance. both games will be indentical though, but i feel ps3 version might sell more if not equal to 360 version.

darth vader or yoda.

darth vader looks more cool on screen, and fans will accept darthy as the more wanted charachter. yoda on the other hand is a little turtle hermit, who just happens to looks like a little green turd.

i dont predict whopping sales for either as beatumups have gone down recently but you never know.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

Soul Calibur 2 was one of my favorite games for the Xbox. I bought it on my xbox back then instead of my ps2 because Spawn > Tekken and the graphics were substantially better

This round, I think the 360 version will end up selling more just because of the install base difference, but the PS3 got the better exclusive character.

Definitely my favorite fighting franchise, and the first time I wish I could have the ps3 version of a game.

I keep on hearing that argument and people seem to forget that *gasp* games on the PS3 can sell better than their 360 brothers despite the difference in consoles sold! Hell, Beyond Good and Evil sold the best on the Gamecube despite the system being last in America and PAL. Soul Calibur 4, on the other hand, gets a worldwide release on both systems and the PS3 has a higher userbase in Japan than the 360 (and Japan will contribute a decent chunk of sales) and a fair amount of PS3 games sell better in PAL than their 360 counterparts.

Y the Yoda hate?  I think he has potential for adding some more unique gameplay in the series than Vader does.  Plus in some of the Hands-on previews I've read, they said playing as Vader doesn't really feel right (he moves a bit too franticly), while yoda bounces around exactly how you would expect.  Honestly though obviously neither of them really belong in the SC universe.

Anyway, I think it will be pretty close (probably within the margin of error WW, so effectively a tie), but vgchartz will have the 360 version winning by a nose.

Regardless I will take on anyone with Kilik and utterly destroy them--I'll be playing on Xbox live day 1, PSN sooner than later.

I didn't forget that games can sell better on the ps3 than 360 despite install base, so I don't know why you're acting like I did :P  I stated my opinion, and I stand by it.  I do not think that Soul Calibur is a franchise that has a fanbase with strong preference for the PS3, that would result in the kind of discrepancy you've described.  I think it will sell equally well on both systems, and since there is a significant install base difference, the 360 version will sell more copies.

My reasoning is sound.
