The rankings are because fanboys lower scores on both sides of the spectrum (that's why the games have such low rankings in general) but there are more people who have played the Nintendo games to balance it out.

A game has 5 votes and suddently *everyone* votes 1 for it???  How come other games have over 450 votes?  There may be a few bad apples, but don't try to lump *everyone* in that.  The main problem is there isn't enough people voting for PS2 games, not that everyone is voting a 1 for them.

One thing I noticed, the ranking doesn't specify if 1 is best or if 10 is best.  I assume most people assume 10 is best, but I wonder if some people are confused and voted it as their number 1 game?  It really should specify...

I don't think that's true, Playstation (PS2+PS3) still has worldwide a larger install base as compared to the Nintendo Wii and discontinued GameCube.

I honestly believe if Sony released a Playstation 2.5 to directly compete with the Nintendo Wii and fully replace the aging PS2 it would have had a major effect on "PS3" sales figures. Of course they would have lost me as a customer by doing so, as I look at the PS3 for the long term.

 Wow. You completely forget that for a decade Playstation sold more systems, where were the majority of Nintendo fans in the world back then?

The Wii/DS aren't selling because of the core Nintendo fans they are selling because of the casuals that are embracing the casual games on them.

So deal with it. 

Nintendo has been around for a very long time, most of us weren´t even born when Nintendo started to make games, it´s much easier to idientify with something you grew up with than with something relatively new, also the characters are very present, Mario = Nintendo while other companies have maskots they don´t represent the company like Nintendos do, their games are loads of fun, not that others aren´t its just that it´s really hard to find someone who nerver played Mario or didn´t like it, so Nintendo connects people and is like a synonym for gameing

If Nintendo is the synonym of gaming then why is it that the biggest brand in gaming has been the playstation for the past decade up to this generation?

It's just a fact that there are vastly more Nintendo people on this site than both PS and Xbox combined.

They were buying Playstations. Now they are buying Wiis and DSs. Simple as that. The PS2 is on the way out, it may have a bigger install base, but it is not being played as actively as the DS and the Wii. Look at software figures to back me up. The Xbox360, Wii and DS all continuously outsell PS2 software. The people who owned PS2s are now playing Wii/DS.

These people are now Nintendo fans, not Sony fans. Or, more accurately, Wii and DS fans rather than Playstation fans. You can say "casual gamers don't visit these forums" all you want but proving you wrong is trivial as there are obviously more Nintendo fans on this board. It's not as if there's a sign saying "Sony fans keep away". It's just the cold hard truth, there are more Nintendo fans right now.

There were more than 150 million home consoles sold for the previous generation of which a vast majority were Playstation products. With the Nintendo Wii not even having reached 10 million in hardware sales yet, I think such conclusions are a bit premature.

But yeah, that's sad, but true. I've been longing for a game's IMDB for long, cause I value movie scores there far more than I value critics scores anywhere. But it only really works because when you have thousands of voters for every half decent movie. They also factor it into the formula - no movie with 10 votes could possibly have a 1 or 10 average. And if you look closely, votes also peak on 1s and 10s around there. There's a lot of people that are only compelled to vote when they love it, or hate it, and then try to push it up, or down, handing those 1s and 10s.If more people love it than hate it, that should also be part of the score.

But perhaps using a median would be a better measure for a site with so few votes. Either that, or at the very least, a formula adapted from IMDB's. Plain averages are simply terrible for these things. I think I've said this before, though I'm not counting on it being changed.

well the vote system is a opportunity for fanboys, is you are a sony fanboy vote low the mario and nintendo games, and is you are a nintendo fanboy vote low sony playstation games, is sad but true, but peculiarly the game in top 1 " the legend of zelda ocarina of time " is the best game to many videogames magazines.
