Alright onto the list of things he "contributed".
MGS2 the first or one of the first console games to use motion capture? Ocarina of Time used Motion capture technology years before MGS2.
Hollywood level? Who cares if they got a hollywood composer? Uematsu puts half of them to shame. And hollywood quality directing is both subjective and not necessarily always something to be proud of.
Attention to detail? You could shoot seagulls in Turok 2 as well. That's not exactly something I would call innovative or a major contribution. A quality no doubt, but not an innovation or contribution.
Easter eggs have been around since the Atari Days, he doesn't get credit for that either.
MGS4 didn't do anything remotely new or innovative. Stealth Camo? That's not even close to being new or innovative. Creating an action stealth game? Still not new. Facial expressions? I'm pretty Sure Shen mue did alot with that too many years earlier.
MGS1 was an amazing and triumphant game. But I'd hardly call it a revolution. It didn't do anything new so much as took what was being done already, and did it really freakin' well. If it is so revolutionary, where are it's imitators? the Modern FPS is built on the shoulder's of Half Life's cinematic experience. You can even see it's influence in games like Assassin's creed where you always have control of your character, even when scenes are taking place. Innumerable number of 3d games today have Mario 64 to thank for creating the blue prints for 3 dimensional games that aren't 1st person or stuck in a 3rd person perspective. Locking onto an enemy in a 3d game used to be referred to as "Z-targeting" because of Ocarina of Time. FF7 made cutscenes a future staple of videogames. The original Metal Gear on MSX created stealth and thought instead of mindless shooting and jumping. But the MGS series for all it's quality isn't revolutionary. No one is even trying to imitate it.
