The DS has better games and a larger range of games such as you can get Guitar Hero: On Tour which is a ton of fun and also there are other games like Metroid Prime: Hunters and Call of Duty 4. The touch screen is also a lot of fun.

Get a DS for all the RPGs and the large range of games coming out. Best is to get both hamdheld so as not to miss out on some great games on the PSP

Are the Polemon games good for an adult? I've suprisingly, never played one, except Pokemon snap, which I actually liked a lot. |
Yes. Up until last year, I had never played a Pokemon game. I dismissed the series as being 'kiddie' because of my preconceived notions of the anime, movies, and marketing.
I used to have a GameBoy Color, which I'd kept on hand for probably 6 or 7 years pretty much just to play Tetris DX. When my son turned six, I eBay'ed some copies of Pokemon Gold/Silver for the GBC and gave him those w/ the GameBoy, as he was showing interest in Pokemon at the time. Of course, he couldn't really play the games because he didn't read all the text or talk to the NPCs, so I used to sit beside him and guide him along. I started to realize then that the game was actually a much more complex RPG than I had first thought, and G/S really reminded me a lot of the play style of the original Final Fantasy games on the NES and SNES (linear story, but very complex battle system with all the combinations of characters+moves pools+held items).
One day at Wal*Mart last year we saw Diamond & Pearl in a DS display, and that was all she wrote. I ended up with a DS and Pearl a month later, and have since bought all the GBA series games too (Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, and LeafGreen).
The Pokemon games absolutely can be enjoyed by adults. In fact, I question how the apparent target audience of children could even figure out everything there is to do, if you're inclined to take all the aspects of the game seriously (such as breeding, EV training, move selections, etc) to be a competitive battler. I'm inclined to think that a person would at least need to be teen or above to fully grasp everything there is to do in the Diamond & Pearl games.
I'm 33 and had absolutely ZERO interest in Pokemon in April of last year. I now have nearly 400 hours logged on Pokemon Pearl, ~40 hours on Diamond, took ~35 hours to beat Leaf Green, and am also ~20 hours through a copy of Emerald and FireRed. It's been a lot of fun being able to link up DS'es with Diamond & Pearl to the Wii and fight my (now) eight year old son on Pokemon Battle Revolution, not to mention just being able to understand all the Poke-terminology my son and his friends use. But absolutely, the game can still be enjoyed by adults even if you're not playing alongside your children. There's a lot to do in those games.
If you evaluate your purchases based on dollar/play-time value, Pokemon probably reigns over all. My 400 hour playtime is not unusual, and actually is low versus what you'll see from other breeders/competitive battlers. If you add up the $129 for the DS and the $35 for a copy of Pearl, that's $165 for over 400 hours of entertainment. That's about 40 cents an hour. Where else am I going to find entertainment for 40 cents an hour? I wish all my other hobbies were that cheap!
If you really enjoy the game, the DS plus either Diamond or Pearl will pay for themselves, even if you never buy another cart for the DS.
any good platformers?
