Forums - Gaming - Sony and Nintendo team up to bring you 1080p on the Wii

The pairing up thing is stupid, but I agree, nice setup you've got there.

I dont understand, why doesnt it look garbled. It normally would. Anyone want to explain this "tuner"? And how much does it cost

First of all, I highly doubt it'd look noticeably garbled in such low resolution shots, but anyway.

From the looks of it, it's probably one of these receivers: STR-DA5200ES. It comes with a Faroudja DCDi scaler - which basically means uber quality deinterlacing and upscaling. Since it's most likely a better scaler than your TV's internal scaler, it'll look better.

And it isn't expensive at all... after all, it just dropped $200 to $1300.

There are lots of receivers that use Faroudja chips, many of them lower than $1300, plus there are better scalers available.

actually samsung make better TV's then SONY atm. THey are much sharper.

ALso considering they are releasing their new models with even higher contrast ratios will make sony tvs even look worst then they already do against the samsung lcds.

$1300?

Yeah......no. Nice though.

Just another reason why HD consoles are just not relevant ;) You can get another piece of tech to do the HD'ing for you!

I agree on the Samsung TV point. I actually don't like the Sony sets at all (poor colour, quality, etc..). I have a Phillips set at the moment that I think looks great (and uses 'Natural Motion' tech to upsample the frame rate to 100hz - which looks pretty sweet as well...).

According to CNet, the Bravias > Samsung.

Lets face it, Sony TVs have awesome ads, we might as well give them credit for it by buying the TVs.

That looks pretty much the same as my wii in 480p on the same size TV. Upscaling doesn't really work that well, you can only stretch the pixels so far.

For those of you who complain about Jaggies on your LCD TVs with your non HD systems, you should have gotten a plasma. I get no Jaggies on my Samsung Plasma. (this isn't a shot a Sony btw, all LCD's create jaggies on non-HD systems)

I'm trying to save energy, not eating it more ;) I guess by saving wasn't the best option then :P And when I bought this TV I was actually planning to buy a Samsung, but as soon as I saw the Sony with a much clearer image and sound I bought it! Ehm silly question, but what are ''jaggies''? Oh and because I'm not fond of Sony Playstation at the moment, that doesn't mean I have to despite the whole company :-/

Angular edges. Sharp angles on the surface of things that shouldn't be there.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!
