Wait... the fact that user generated content may have to be paid for is being considered a good thing?

Isn't that... a BAD thing since most of the people who are any good at it are going to want YOU to pay for it?

It seems like something that will really hurt the community.

Eh, what do i care. I'll only make and play my own shit anyway.

did you read the article? the community rates your products, if they are bad you cant charge 534534 million dollars, if they are good you are alowed to charge more money, its limited by the popularity

If they rate it as bad... by paying for it in the first place.

From what i read "Price is user-determined" = I decide how much I want to charge.

I'm going to charge a quarter a level... and if nobody buys it... who cares? If someone does I made a quarter!

Also it brings up copyright issues i'm pretty sure. Using Mario ingame and giving him away is fair use. Making a stage where you charge money and Mario is in it = copyright infringement.

The way I read it is that you would have to EARN the right to charge. Like if you make X amount of projects, and you receive ranking X, then you could charge people to download your levels.

I am thinking it would have to be an absolutely MASSIVE level, and people would pay like $3 for a pack of levels.

I dont think thats too bad. If someone is willing to put a LOT of work in to a project, and people would enjoy that project, then I dont see why its wrong to charge 2-3 dollars for a pack of 10 levels. Its like DLC that you would benefit from.

lol this is only for exeptional creators who are then picked to share thier stuff for money.

little big planet is looking to be one of the biggest titles this year. my bet is that this game will recive 10`s across the board.

i challenge anyone to goto psn store and download the new LBP video where the sackboy knight has to rescue the sackgirl princess and tell me that doesnt look awsome.

this game is totally unique and will only be found on the playstation 3, i predict huge sales for this gem of a game and a surefired system seller

I am thinking the same thing, I would never charge for a level UNLESS someone were to get REALLY creative. Whats a dollar when you have a massive level that takes like an hour to complete?

This also is an incentive for people to create better levels. I dont see anything wrong with this. You still have the option of only buying the game and not buying the levels. I wouldnt mind creating a level and making a little money off of it .

Not just anyone can charge. MM will pick the best.

What's a better incentive to create a level in LittleBigPlanet than good, hard cold cash? According to recent comments by David Reeves, president of SCEE, that's what's planned for the upcoming community-driven platformer. "What we're trying to do with LittleBigPlanet is almost iTunes meets eBay in the sense that once an individual or a developer has qualified by producing certain levels or certain add-ons, they will then be able in the future to exchange these and make money out of them," Reeves notes. "Eventually, it's feasible that you might well see the first LittleBigPlanet millionaire!"

It appears that how much creators can charge for content is also user-determined. "Even if you charge less than one euro, it doesn't take many downloads if you've got a really strong LittleBigPlanet level for people to be able to make money. It's a great way for people to show others what they can do." This may give aspiring level designers a chance to not only show off their creativity, but turn their skills into profit.

that part is important, as I believe this means that not every person can create a level and say "money please". I think certain standards have to be met first

And I have a feeling that many people will create free "clones" of the levels they charge you for.

So basically most of the crap levels will be free and those real gems created by people with talent will cost money. Ummmm...yay? It's nice to know I can get nickle and dimed if I want the better levels I was assuming were going to be free.
