Forums - Nintendo - Out of the people who buy Wiis, how many are from the "expanded audience"?

Every week, according to VGC data, the Wii is selling in the 300K/400K range....in %, how many of these people do you think, taking a (wild) guess, are from the group Nintendo calls "expanded audience"?....And how many are 'core gamers'?

It seems many 3rd parties are under the assumption, ever since the Wii was released, that the vast majority of Wii buyers are not the so called 'core gamers', so they keep refusing to give the Wii the "big core games" (save for a few exceptions, such as Monster Hunter 3, Fatal Frame IV,etc..) the HD systems have been getting.

With that said, do you think the "expanded audience" group indeed makes up a big slice of the pie?

And how many are from neither of those groups?

I am part of the expanded audience. The last system I bought was the N64 and at that time I weighed about 150 pounds. By the time I bought the wii I weighed 210 pounds. I'm down to 202 after having wii fit for the last month though.

Congrats, Paul, keep working on it.

Its difficult to say for sure ...

If you look at the combined sales of the Wii, XBox 360 and PS3 they're tracking above the combined sales of the Gamecube, XBox and PS2 at a similar point in time. A portion of this increase in sales would be related to the expanded audience buying a console, but (obviously) not all can be attributed to them.

Realistically, I would estimate that the expanded audience accounted for (no more than) 20% of the Wii purchases.

Well the last non-portable Nintendo system I had up until the Wii was the SNES(never had a N64/GC), so it brought me back into the Nintendo console fold. ;-p

@HappySqurriel

So, 3rd parties sure are ignoring lots of opportunities in the core game department for the Wii, I take it..

@smbu

Hey man, as far as I´m concerned, the SNES will always be the best console ever.

I agree with you on that one, as the SNES is still my favorite console of all time! :D
