Forums - General - Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann Discussion(Mask spoilers please)

So I just finished watching TTGL and I think it's a great anime. I would recommend TTGL to anyone aged in between 9- 99. The fight scenes are over the top, and some might find it childish, but don't let that turn you off because there's a great show underneath the quirky battles.

Also my favorite AMV based on TTGL at the moment. (Doesn't have plot spoilers)

Personally I like how the characters grew throughout the whole show.
Especially how they showed it through the "who do you think we are/I am?" line.
Seems like every answer to that question is emotionally powerful.
From the start when Simon first figured out who he was, to the end after he passed down the torch.

I also liked how they showed society's values changed because of its advancing.
From being thanked to being despised for doing the exact same thing.

I consider myself somewhat a slow person so one reason I made this thread is to discuss TTGL in hopes of catching things I might've missed. That and to just discuss a great show amongst other viewers fans or otherwise. So anyone else seen the show and wants to discuss?

I loved the show. I thought the rebellion of the people against Simon was a bit far fetched. Looking at history, it's very hard for impossibly popular people to have everyone turn against them. Look at George Washington. The Alien and Sedition Acts did nothing to his popularity. This kid freaking saved everyone's life and allowed them to come above ground. He killed the dictator oppressing them all and gave them a new life. People don't forget that quick.

Well they blamed him for the moon falling down and their coming extinction.
Atleast they survived underground. Now they were all going to die because they were forced to go on the surface(remember some tribes didn't want to go to the surface but they were forced by Rossiu for the head count)

The people also became materialistic which is understandable, comparing it to todays society.
Back in medievel times people would be grateful for their lives even if their town got trampled by the king's army to protect them from invaders. Compare it today, civilians would get angry if their home was used by the army for defense and got destroyed in the process. They would whine and ask for compensation( atleast I think I would have) just like in the show.

It's certainly easy to rationalize, but it's just not realisitic.  Looking at extremely popular figures in human history, it's VERY hard to knock them down off their thrown.  They'd be much more likely to have faith in Simon than blame him.  He overcame seemingly impossible odds once; why shouldn't he be able to do it again?  It also goes nicely with the show's theme of human kind never giving up and always hanging on no matter how small that shred of hope is.

I'll give this show a download. If I like it enough I'll definitely buy it.

Also, that AMV made me want to watch Mulan again. I really wish Disney would make real animated films again.

Kingdom Hearts 3 Bet: If Kingdom Hearts 3 becomes a multiplaform title/is not Wii exclusive then I will be banished from this land for 1 week and sing my praises to those who have proved themselves to be more intelligent than I.http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y267/RDBRaptor/rdbraptor_sig16.jpg%5B/IMG%5D">
My Anime List

It was ok. I thought it got quite repetitive during its second half but it was good fun nonetheless; i'd give it 8/10. Far from my favourite Super-Robo anime (those would be Gunbuster and GaoGaiGar FINAL).

Well, for one thing, most tribes didn't really know they were being oppresed, they didn't even know there was a surface.
Just the ones that happened to reach the surface which is less than half the population.
Most of them didn't even partake in the struggle between beastmen and Human.
The people who did join the struggle, The Dai-gurren brigade still had complete faith on Simon.
The other people were just told that there is a surface and was made to believe that it's better than the underground.

Then suddenly, they were told they were going to die because they went to the surface.
Add to that that some were forced up to the surface and the beastmen (who had a perfectly good life before Simon came) was also in the riot.
Of course they would blame Simon, because to them, Simon was the one who forced them up and they were going to die for it.

Also the theme only applies to the Dai Gurren brigade, not humanity itself.
Humanty was suppose to take them as role models or as guides.
