Ok, I just assumed that was what it was, but it is still quite annoying that you do not get anywhere near the advertised drive space

A very, very large portion of that missing 7GB is due to the partition for game saves, and backwards compatability. You can download the entire Xbox 360 BC software, and put a few gigs of saves without taking up any of that 13GB of space. Trust me on this.

It just I was considering getting an Original, but it now takes up closer to 1/2 rather than 1/3 of my HDD, and considering that I have alreday only got 5GB left, it would just take up too much room with only 13GB

Better if you bought a PS3:)

True, but dude wants a 360 so let him get one.

That really depends...

If he wants a bluray player and likes MGS4 to death...then sure.

Otherwise, he is saving himeslf some money on hardware he doesn't need and is getting a better overall gameing library and online experience.

Just to clarify.  To play original Xbox games I will need to download BC software?

No...you may need a system update which takes 30 seconds...but no software downlaod is needed.

Also BC isn't 100%. Check on xbox.com which games are supported from the xbox 1 catalog before buying them. The games that are supported all look better and have upscaled visuals.

Awesome, I just checked the site and Ninja Gaiden is compatible.  So everything in that list is compatible without any problems?  Also, the site states that I will need an emulator for each game... how does this effect space?

Hard drive space doesn't change much as they increase the number of games supported. Emulation software is there and system updates add new games to the list...they shouldn't be more than a magabyte or 2 as they literally take 15 seconds to downlaod and install.

Thanks disolitude!

I'm off to buy the 360, however, I misinterpreted the deal. It's for Gears of War and UT3 only. How is UT3, I prefer not to open it because then I can't eBay it for decent $$ should I decide to do that.

Also, girlfriend wants to know if there are any good puzzle games.

I haven't heard a word from anyone who's played the 360 version of UTIII. Not too many people are big fans of the series it seems. The 360 version kind of came in with zero fanfare given the time gap between the PC and PS3 versions.

It's a fun death match game with GoW style graphics since it uses the same game engine, and particularly good for online matches which is important since the single player campaign is somewhat of a joke.

As for puzzle games, there are quite a few on XBL Arcade. Zuma, Bejeweled are a couple I can think of off the top of my head. Most of them have demos so you can try before buying the full version.

I rented UT3...and didnt like it. It doesn't have a real campaign but jsut a bunch of deathmatches with some cutscenes.

Online multiplayer is brootal...got slaughtered in the few games i played. Otherwise the game looks amazing and if you like death matche fps games you will be in heaven. Otherwise you could get some great trade in value for it...and pick up gta4 with 10 dollars added or some other game like ninja gaiden 2

There are lots of puzzle games on Xbox live arcade. Try Robogo or even frogger 2...my gf loves frogger 2. The good thing is that you can download all xbox live games as demos before you buy. PS3 doesn't do that for some reason...

There are a few free games on xbox live...and I think Hexic is free and a puzzle game.

she will probably like boogie bunnies from the xbla.   there are demos of all the arcade games though, so im sure she can find something that she will like.
